Outdoor Curb Appeal: Lowes $100 Giveaway!

{GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED}

The winner is:  #262: Chelsea Duncan!

Our Lowe’s challenge this month was to spruce up an outdoor area and give it more curb appeal. I knew instantly what I would do and that is, change out these pitiful light fixtures. Lowes has some really nice ones for not a lot of money.

Lowes lights

I picked out these two beauties and they were $40 each. Not bad at all for adding that curb appeal.

007

This pretty little black lantern will go over the front door.

008

I got out the ladder and started taking down the old fixture. If you have been following my blog for awhile, you know that I am not afraid to tackle light fixtures and changed out every light fixture in my old house myself. It’s not hard once you get the hang of it. I’ll show you more on that below.

012

The old one came down.  YAY!

021

And the new one went up. Look how cute it looks with my glass front door!

022

It’s very simple and elegant with seeded glass.

Here’s are simple instructions on DIYing your own light fixtures.  Someone asked me this and YES, turn OFF the power to your lightswitch by turning off the breaker.  I will confess, that I sometimes just make sure the switch is in the OFF position on the wall and that stops the power from coming through too, but that is not the proper way to do it.  Do as I say, not as I do.  Be safe!

015

Here’s the back porch fixture. I thought I’d show you how easy it is to connect these. Black wire to black wire and white one to white. Wrap the copper ground wire around the little screw that is marked Ground. Screw the plate in and line up the bolts. 016

The base of the fixture has holes that the screws slide through and then the cap nut goes on top.

024

Much better, don’t you think?

025

Beautiful and simple Craftsman style fixture and now the porch will look SO much better. I can hardly wait to get on this porch to enjoy it all!

And Lowes is giving away to ONE of my readers a $100 giftcard to help you out with a project of your own!  What will you spend your giftcard on if you win?

Do you have an outdoor project you’d like to do soon?  Tell me in the comments and I’ll choose a winner in a few days!

Note:  I received a Lowes giftcard to complete my outdoor project.

Several years ago, my husband installed landscape lights. Over the last couple of harsh winters, several need replaced. This is on our summer ‘to-do’ list!

We’re FINALLY starting our vegetable garden after being in this house for 5 years so we’d spend it on materials to keep critters out. THANKS for the opportunity.

I would love to have this giftcard to purchase a new light fixture in our bathroom. We have completely redone the whole bathroom except for replacing the light fixture. It is a glaring bit of ugly in our otherwise lovely new bathroom.

Oh my goodness…what a difference. I have a project to do list that is, well, quite long……..I could certainly use a Lowe’s gift card for new outdoor lighting…(mine is sad), a new kitchen faucet, a new kitchen sink (very, very sad), a new front door, a new garage door…or some paint to paint our guest bedroom (awful shade of ick left by the previous owners)…….I would love to win….I think I would start with the kitchen sink!!!!

Oh the many projects on my to do list that I could use that gift card for. My list keeps growing but being a single mama to 3 little ones – the budget doesn’t allow much for extras. Would love to be able to spruce up some things around the house.

I’d get new light fixtures for the back of our house. We were discussing the need to replace the lights just this past weekend.

Ooohhh… I’d put it toward the materials needed to create the perfect outdoor swinging bed 🙂 My hubs is pretty handy (I’m somewhat crafty so it works out well) and I’ve been asking him to tackle this project for some time. Hopefully this will be the motivation we need to get it done 🙂 Thanks!

We just bought some fabulous outdoor lights from Lowe’s for our covered porch, so I don’t need lights. But, what I do need is some porch furniture. I have my eye on a set at Lowe’s, so I would use the gift card for that. I’m so glad we have a Lowe’s store where we live now. In our previous town, we had to drive over an hour to the nearest Lowe’s location.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

I just realized you said OUTDOOR projects (I have so many going on, it’s hard to separate them into categories!) I have several lighting fixtures that we have NEVER replaced since moving into the house. Need one by the front door and then three on the sides and near the garage door. Sigh … it’s never quite done, is it??!!??

I would work on my curb appeal by buying some flowers, wrought iron plant hangers and some patio cushions to replace my faded old ones. I love your blog and am so happy that you have your own house now to work on.

    Rhoda,

Love what you are doing to the new place. So exciting to get to redo everything just like you like it! My husband and I have been working every weekend in our backyard on projects. Would love to get the Lowes gift card to help us out with several projects including building an arbor bench in the rock/container garden, replacing several lighting fixtures in the backyard, building a wishing well planter (6 foot tall), maybe some new cushions and a few other other backyard projects. We are tackling them one by one every weekend. ~Dawn

I would use it towards a toilet for my new bathroom! Not very glamorous, but practical. 🙂
