Historic Homes of Eufaula, AL

Last week, I had the fun pleasure of driving down to Port St. Joe with one of my bestest friends, Vicki.  We have known each other since we were 15 and graduated from high school in Marietta together.  She and her hubby have a cute little cottage home down there and invited me to join them for a few days.

We had a great time going out on their boat, fishing, walking the white sand, sitting in the sun, thrifting, eating lots of great food and generally just enjoying the sunshine and perfect weather.

On the way down, we went through Eufaula, Alabama, a cute historic town with a gorgeous main street showcasing some wonderful old homes.  I thought you might enjoy seeing them too.For years, traveling down to Panama City from Atlanta, we always ventured through Eufaula, Alabama on the way down those state roads to the beach.  And I fondly remember driving down main street in Eufaula and admiring these stately old homes. So enjoy the tour of this cute little town and those picturesque houses. Just in time, those Spring flowering azaleas are in fine form putting on quite a show in front of this gorgeous mansion. The architecture along this street is varied and unique.  Nothing common about these homes. This was going on the first weekend too and would have been fun to get in on.  Maybe another time.

Check out those beautiful azaleas, a staple in Southern gardens. We thought this one looked like the Adams Family house.

Spring is a great time of year to show off these beautiful old homes.

Wasn’t that fun?

I know most of you enjoy looking at architecturally beautiful homes as much as I do and there are some gems in the small towns of our great nation. Now that I’m back in my hometown of Marietta, GA, I will have to share more about the older homes in my town.  Driving into the beautiful Marietta square are some gems that you would love to see too.

I’ve got plenty more to share from Port St. Joe and Destin, so stay tuned for more.

Thank you for sharing the tour of Eufaula! My husband and I love that town and have spent many hours driving around there, enjoying the homes and architecture. I really am missing the South and my Alabama home! The pictures you share really help me with my home-sickness! Thanks!

You drove right by my house then. Eufaula is a beautiful town and this years tour was spectacular. I was a volunteer at the Stewart Petry Honan house which is the house with that wonderful fence that you showed. It has remained in the family and is so rich in history and treasures. They always dress in period costume and it was so much fun. Terry is so into his family history that his wife bought him a canon that he fires each pilgrimage. I do hope that you get to stop if not for the pilgrimage then the Christmas tour.
    Hugs

Older homes, with their remarkably unique architecture, have so much more character than the cookie cutter homes of today. Thank you for sharing these magnificent homes.

What a pretty tour of the homes in Eufaula. It has been a little while since I’ve visited, and I would like to go back maybe for one of the pilgrimage weekends.

    Thanks, Rhoda!

My sister-in-law used to live right in between Mexico Beach and Port St. Joe when she was stationed at Tyndall AFB. It is such a relaxing area, and the drive through Eufaula on the way down was fantastic! It really is the most beautiful town. I made my hubs drive really slowly so I could take pictures of all the houses. I’d love to go back and explore it sometime.

Oh Rhoda, I just love Eufaula. We drive through there on our way to the beach, also. We have for many years stopped and picked up picnic items at a local store and enjoyed a picnic by the lake. Now I want to take a trip down south!

What a beautiful town. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I also enjoy visiting Marietta square when I visit my folks. The old homes driving up to the square always make me smile. Take care.

I loved seeing those beautiful houses. It’s so sad where I live. There are so many homes that you can tell were fancy homes like that back in the day. However, sadly they were not maintained and today they quite frankly look like dumps. Sad that people let this happen, but many of these homes are beyond help unless you had an extra million sitting around and had 2 or 3 years to play to fix them up. I’m glad there are still places where they old homes are allowed to shine.

    Hi, Rhoda –
Thanks for taking us along. This was a fantastic tour, as always. I love the beautiful, old homes. I only wish I lived close enough so you could give me a tour. It would be so much fun to see them up close and in person – but more fun to spend time with you!

I love all the pics. My husband and I are from the Troy/Brundidge AL area and it is nice to see AL…makes me home sick.
My hubby is in the AF and we are in California. We have been here for 6 years and although it is a great experience we would love to be closer to home.
