Historic Homes of Eufaula, AL

Last week, I had the fun pleasure of driving down to Port St. Joe with one of my bestest friends, Vicki.  We have known each other since we were 15 and graduated from high school in Marietta together.  She and her hubby have a cute little cottage home down there and invited me to join them for a few days.

We had a great time going out on their boat, fishing, walking the white sand, sitting in the sun, thrifting, eating lots of great food and generally just enjoying the sunshine and perfect weather.

On the way down, we went through Eufaula, Alabama, a cute historic town with a gorgeous main street showcasing some wonderful old homes.  I thought you might enjoy seeing them too.For years, traveling down to Panama City from Atlanta, we always ventured through Eufaula, Alabama on the way down those state roads to the beach.  And I fondly remember driving down main street in Eufaula and admiring these stately old homes. So enjoy the tour of this cute little town and those picturesque houses. Just in time, those Spring flowering azaleas are in fine form putting on quite a show in front of this gorgeous mansion. The architecture along this street is varied and unique.  Nothing common about these homes. This was going on the first weekend too and would have been fun to get in on.  Maybe another time.

Check out those beautiful azaleas, a staple in Southern gardens. We thought this one looked like the Adams Family house.

Spring is a great time of year to show off these beautiful old homes.

Wasn’t that fun?

I know most of you enjoy looking at architecturally beautiful homes as much as I do and there are some gems in the small towns of our great nation. Now that I’m back in my hometown of Marietta, GA, I will have to share more about the older homes in my town.  Driving into the beautiful Marietta square are some gems that you would love to see too.

I’ve got plenty more to share from Port St. Joe and Destin, so stay tuned for more.

Love Eufaula and experienced the amazing spring tour several years ago. Your pics make me very home sick for AL and my home. I’m not sure I can survive this post and one on Destin in the same week. Looking forward to a vicarious beach trip to gorgeous Destin FL.

Can’t wait to see your Marietta homes tour! I had volunteered to be a docent during the Marietta Pilgrimage at Christmas time but my pregnancy was getting too difficult as I was approaching my third trimester. This year, I hope to help out!

There are SO many little lovely historic towns around ATL that you could venture out to and feature here on the blog. I look forward to your photos!

I love Eufaula. It’s only an hour away from my hometown of Columbus, Georgia so I go through it on the way home to see my family. It’s such a pretty place. Great photos Rhoda.

    Hugs,
    Kat

Many years ago, we would drive through Eufala on our trek from our south Georgia home to see family in Arkansas. My husband complained that we would “lose time” if I was driving through town because I went slow enough to enjoy the beautiful homes along the way. Some of your pictures looked familiar–thanks for taking me back in time

Oh, Rhoda ~ I am so glad I saw this post!! I grew up about 15 minutes from Eufaula in a tiny spot called Edwin! 🙂 Edwin was where I had my tea room/gift shoppe since we redid my great-grandmother’s house for it. I have been on the tour of homes, and they are just beautiful inside. What a treat for me to see all these historical homes on your blog ~ I have always loved them! Many ladies from Eufaula visited my tea room regularly, and one of my favorite visitors was a sweet lady that lived in one of the homes on this very street! 🙂 I won’t ever forget her coming to have tea with us…she was 92 yo then and was still mowing her grass!! 🙂 I’m so happy you shared these pictures with us…makes me feel a little bit closer to home tonight!

    Hugs to you!

    Hi Rhoda,

So you are back in GA too…

Well those homes are lovely, thanks for sharing. We camped there in Eufaula last July 4th and had a wonderful time.

We always go through there going to Atlanta. Such beautiful homes. One of them belongs to Katie Couric’s family. But all so beautiful!

Great photos that brought back sweet memories! My husband and I spent our first Valentine’s Day in Eufaula when I was in vet school at Auburn. What a sweet little town!

One always reads or hears about the southern states of US being elegant in their house designs of yesteryear, but seeing your pictures really brings home the grandeur and opulence that only space and cheap labour can permit.
    Thanks for sharing the beauty.

How funny…was just talking with a client of mine today who was longing to go visit family in Eufala! I’d literally never heard of the place and now I see it with my own 2 eyes…and I completely understand why she wants to be there so badly this Easter weekend! Thanks for sharing!

We drive through Eufala every year on our way to Destin. I just love that street. I am right down the road from you now, in Smyrna! Welcome back to Cobb County, maybe we can go yardsaling on day.

Hi there! I was just in Eufaula Thursday for a book signing! Love the city and the people. My novel is based in Eufaula and I’d love to send you a copy … it’s called “Dancing Naked in Dixie” and follows a NY travel writer to Alabama to cover the Pilgrimage. You can find it on Amazon, BN.com, etc.

My email is Laurenclarkbooks (at) gmail (dot) com

    All the best, Lauren
