Homemade Peach Cobbler

My mom’s been making this peach cobbler for as long as I can remember and when I asked her where it came from, she said it’s been in her family for years.  As promised, here you go, a good ole’ Southern Peach Cobbler recipe that is about as easy as they come.

It has a stick of butter, maybe that’s one reason why it’s so good.  We don’t shy away from butter here in the South.  Just ask Paula! 🙂

peach cobbler and ice cream

With vanilla ice cream, it’s a real treat!  Mom and dad buy boxes of peaches at a local place when they are driving up to their house in the mountains and the boxes are $5 for over-ripe peaches.  Mom puts them all to good use and not many are ruined.

She also adds a little sugar to her peaches when they are peeled, so you can do that or skip that step if you don’t need it that sweet.  I think the sugar in the topping would be enough.

Out of the oven and ready to eat, after cooling a bit.

Mom

Mom is such a great cook, she has fed her family for years and years.

And she also has a green thumb too and grows the prettiest African violets on her back porch.

Hope you enjoy my mom’s Peach Cobbler!

    Rhoda-
Thank you for sharing!! It is very similar to my aunt’s peach cobbler we grew up with. In our family cobblers were affectionately called “mess.” Peach Mess was always one of my personal favorites. I’m going to try your version this week with a few modifications (dairy free and gluten free). Ill let you know how it goes!! Best- Tracey

I’m so happy she uses fresh peaches in her cobbler! I’m going to give it a try. 95% of the recipes you see for peach cobbler call for canned peaches. They are flavorless. Please let your mom know how much we appreciate her sharing the recipe. 🙂

    Hay Cuz!
You are right! That is the best cobbler recipe ever. One of the “Aunts” gave me that recipe many years ago . It’s great with BlackBerries or blueberries also. In the winter I buy a package of frozen mixed berries and it is great.
I got an iPhone this past winter and have been able to keep up with you every day. I have loved following you. I went back and followed your house renovation and several other older blogs. I even saw a picture of me at the Blount reunion. It’s also been a pleasure to see pictures of aunt Iris and uncle Al . I feel like we talk every day! It’s been fun! Love you, Joy

I grew up eating this as a very special summer treat.
Sometime, winter treat because mom always
froze those treasures for off season baking surprises.
    Your mom’s violet is stupendous!
I love love love a healthy african violet –
As an aside thought, relish the smell of home.
Because you always will hunger for it.
So proud for you and your wonderful parents,
    p

Love the pictures… My grandmother made a mean peach cobbler and LOVED her African violets. She went home to the Lord 3 years ago and would have been 92 on the 31st.. I bet she is in Heaven tending to her violets now..

How odd! I was out to lunch today and dessert was peach and redcurrant cobbler and was delish! I am going to do your recipe very soon, as peaches are in season now, and what better use for them. Thanks my dear.

I love your Mom…so sweet. I’m going to try this with some fresh picked blackberries a friend just brought me. I always add a little sugar to the fruit( just like my mom did) because it draws out the juices. I guess I could cut back on that in the topping so it’s not too sweet. Thanks for another great food post.
