House Renovations: Week 10, Building a Door Roof {or How Awesome is my Daddy?}

Last week was devoted entirely to Haven for me and I have been completely exhausted after a week of running like crazy, but my daddy was hard at work at the house, getting a couple more things accomplished.  I’ll do a recap on Haven on Tuesday and it was SO fabulous, I hardly have words to express it all. I’m still on a Haven high!  I did get some great sleep last night, so I’m feeling like a human being again.

But, back to the house.  So many wonderful girls from Haven asked me about the house and told me how excited they are for me and this house.   They asked me if I was bringing my mom and dad to Haven, but I didn’t get them there.  Everyone wanted to meet them, but they would have been so out of their element!

Back door before

Here’s the little back door that goes outside from my laundry room/storage area downstairs.  My daddy is one who loves to put a roof over a doorway like this.  He likes to protect doors from the elements and they definitely do last longer when protected from the weather.  So, with my Lowes Creative Ideas blogging opportunity for June, we are going to add a cover over this door.

He went and bought lumber to get started and this was the very beginning that I snapped pics of at dusk one afternoon. That daddy of mine is so good at all of this and I’m grateful to have him.

He framed in the top and sloped a short roof.  We’ll eventually put a metal roof on top.

And here it is all framed in and almost finished.  The metal roof will go on top of this and it will all get painted out white.  Note:  we ended up using shingles and not a metal roof, which worked out great too.

Isn’t it cute?

Close up of the brackets.  We’ll add a bit more trim and then it will be done.

My daddy is so smart!

I love it, it’s so cute and will look so great when painted. Now hopefully this door will not get water damage. We had noticed that a bit of water comes in by this door when it rains, so it will be interesting to see if this stops it. Hope so!

I never showed you the finished master bedroom paint, so here is Moderate White (SW) again. I’m keeping my bedroom light and airy too and will probably keep my blue and white and add some green splashes in here.  Lots of greens and blues in this house this time around.  Love those 2 colors together.

Another thing my dad got done was tearing out the old vanity sink cabinet from in here.  This will be a great space for my antique vanity.

Can’t wait to use it!

And here’s the extra bedroom with Moderate White.

I’m loving the house so far, it is so much fun to see it come alive.  I know you all are so excited for me.  And a big shout out to Lowes for providing a giftcard for this project. That has been such a help to me to get this house finished.

We have just moved into a new home and our back deck sure could use some chairs and perhaps a little table.

Your dad is amazing- is there anything he can’t do?! 🙂 Thank you for all you did to make Haven such a wonderful experience. And thank you for this giveaway! If I won, I’d use the gift card to do some desperately needed maintenance on our deck.

Love watching your home come together. As for the gift card… We own my grandmother’s little home and I would love to buy some new plants for the back yard or a new porch swing for all the family to enjoy there.

I’m loving watching the improvements to your home. So exciting! I’m hoping to add a new garden bed in my back yard. The plan is to make it a perennial garden with loads of butterfly attracting plants. Wish me luck!

Your dad and mom are amazing! The house is going to be beautiful when you finish, Rhoda. If I win the Lowe’s card we will use it to start putting a roof over our deck. It gets the afternoon sun and is hot. Thank you for the giveaway.

I love seeing the progress on your home. If I won the Lowe’s card I would use it to pretty up my husband’s shed (which we bought from Lowe’s) with a window and flower box.

I so enjoy seeing the progress on your lovely home and forward to each progress report! Goodness an outside project, where do I begin: arbor, raised beds, 2 gems Magnolias, stone/brick patio! Seems we go to Lowe’s sometimes twice a day! When we purchased our home the yard was all concrete and a jungle of bamboo, dead pine trees, and poison ivy. It is slowly being transformed into an English garden! (My husband is English!) Best wishes and blessings being sent to you!

I just love your blog! If I’d won the Lowe’s gift card, I’d definitely finish creating the gravel/stone pathways from my garage to the garden- just the thing to finish off our landscaping!

Rhoda, all the do-it-yourselfers at Haven would have loved to meet your amazing parents! If we won the gift card, we’d replace the screen door on the front porch. Our dog Lucy has pushed out the screen and I want a little more decorative door.

I have a door exposed to the elements as well and would love to put a roof over it. Fortunately, I have a handy husband who would love to have a Lowe’s GC to pay for my whims! 🙂

I would LOVE to win the giftcard! I would buy some new plants for the area in front of my dining room windows. We ripped out lots of plants and haven’t purchased new ones yet!

We are deep in the process of moving and need to bring our house out of the 80’s in a bad way! I am going to follow your example and blog as I go!! Outdoors, we need to do something about the front porch area – it is covered in a funky indoor/outdoor carpet that has seen much better years and also need to do some serious pruning of unruly trees. We also have a pond that needs some TLC – not to mention furniture, grill for Big Daddy, rugs, plants, etc. Whew – I am tired just thinking about it, but I am looking forward to it so much!

I really enjoy watching the transformation of your new house. I’m starting a renovation on my living room today. Lightening up the paint colors, fixing the trim that previous owners nearly destroyed with their lack of painting knowledge and going for a darker couch (4 kids demands it!). A little extra Lowe’s $ would be soooooo awesome!
