House Renovations: Week 10, Building a Door Roof {or How Awesome is my Daddy?}

Last week was devoted entirely to Haven for me and I have been completely exhausted after a week of running like crazy, but my daddy was hard at work at the house, getting a couple more things accomplished.  I’ll do a recap on Haven on Tuesday and it was SO fabulous, I hardly have words to express it all. I’m still on a Haven high!  I did get some great sleep last night, so I’m feeling like a human being again.

But, back to the house.  So many wonderful girls from Haven asked me about the house and told me how excited they are for me and this house.   They asked me if I was bringing my mom and dad to Haven, but I didn’t get them there.  Everyone wanted to meet them, but they would have been so out of their element!

Back door before

Here’s the little back door that goes outside from my laundry room/storage area downstairs.  My daddy is one who loves to put a roof over a doorway like this.  He likes to protect doors from the elements and they definitely do last longer when protected from the weather.  So, with my Lowes Creative Ideas blogging opportunity for June, we are going to add a cover over this door.

He went and bought lumber to get started and this was the very beginning that I snapped pics of at dusk one afternoon. That daddy of mine is so good at all of this and I’m grateful to have him.

He framed in the top and sloped a short roof.  We’ll eventually put a metal roof on top.

And here it is all framed in and almost finished.  The metal roof will go on top of this and it will all get painted out white.  Note:  we ended up using shingles and not a metal roof, which worked out great too.

Isn’t it cute?

Close up of the brackets.  We’ll add a bit more trim and then it will be done.

My daddy is so smart!

I love it, it’s so cute and will look so great when painted. Now hopefully this door will not get water damage. We had noticed that a bit of water comes in by this door when it rains, so it will be interesting to see if this stops it. Hope so!

I never showed you the finished master bedroom paint, so here is Moderate White (SW) again. I’m keeping my bedroom light and airy too and will probably keep my blue and white and add some green splashes in here.  Lots of greens and blues in this house this time around.  Love those 2 colors together.

Another thing my dad got done was tearing out the old vanity sink cabinet from in here.  This will be a great space for my antique vanity.

Can’t wait to use it!

And here’s the extra bedroom with Moderate White.

I’m loving the house so far, it is so much fun to see it come alive.  I know you all are so excited for me.  And a big shout out to Lowes for providing a giftcard for this project. That has been such a help to me to get this house finished.

I am so excited to have found your blog! Found it through your post about The Screen Door in Asheville.

I would love to win the Lowe’s card! My husband and I purchased our first house last year, and even though we had to buy something fairly cookie cutter, I am desperately trying to give it some character. I would work on our back yard, which is just a flat slab of grass. I want to build a raised herb garden and create some flower beds so that the grass isn’t touching the house.

Ooo, I’d love to put some pavers and gravel underneath my deck! My basement opens out to the back yard down there and it’s in dire need of some TLC (and mud control!)
Fun to see the progress, Rhoda, thanks for sharing! Can I borrow your daddy for a project or two sometime?? 🙂

If I won a Lowes gift card I would definately build a pergola over my back patio and then I could begin landscaping.

You are making great progress on your new home. I bet you can’t wait to move in:)

Since I’m an apt gal, my “outdoors” cosists of a small landing. But what fun it would be to add a couple flower boxes on the railing filled with pretty plants. And then a small grill on my tiny table.

I love your blog! If I were to win the Lowes gift card I would finish an area we have set aside for relaxing in our back yard. Comfy seating, a hammock, beautiful plants, ahhhh.
    Fingers crossed!

I would work on making our lawn nice and green and lush, good for letting the kids run around in, and planting shrubs and bushes.

Love watching your house come alive! I need to get the same energy directed towards by backyard. I would use the gift card to help in purchasing pavers to build my patio.

I’d get patio stones and put in a patio finally. Right now our grill and table are setting on the lawn and we have to move them every time. Having a patio would be lovely!

I am so loving your new house. Can’t wait to see all your blue & green together – that is one of my favorite color combos too! I’d love to work on my front porch with a gift card.

Nice job on the house! I love the Moderate White and may try that in my master too. We are also reovating a house that we bought in October.
The previous homeowners really neglected the house over the years, both inside and out. The biggest shame is what they did to the back deck. The deck has a beautiful view of the horse farms behind us, but the previous owners did not properly seal or maintain the wood. I constantly worry about my children and their friends getting splinters in their feet or falling through the rickety rails. The size of the deck has made it cost prohibitive to replace so far, but this is definitiely on my priority list, and the gift card would be a great start!

We really need an umbrella for our deck. Also, need to do the sealer treatment on the deck. Also would love some outdoor benches. Well the list just keeps going. Thanks for the opportunity.

I just bought a house that has ZERO landscaping. I would use the gift card to get started on a flower bed in the front of the house.

I would LOVE to win a Lowes Giftcard. We are remodeling a 1980
home. We are at Lowes almoste every weekend, our home needs so much work. We just remodeled our kitchen and are now covering the 1980 brick fireplace. We still need to replace all our doors, most
of them want even close! We also need a new tub, I could go on and on!!! Your home has come along ways and I have got some great ideas from you. Thanks
    Donna
