House Renovations: Week 10, Building a Door Roof {or How Awesome is my Daddy?}

Last week was devoted entirely to Haven for me and I have been completely exhausted after a week of running like crazy, but my daddy was hard at work at the house, getting a couple more things accomplished.  I’ll do a recap on Haven on Tuesday and it was SO fabulous, I hardly have words to express it all. I’m still on a Haven high!  I did get some great sleep last night, so I’m feeling like a human being again.

But, back to the house.  So many wonderful girls from Haven asked me about the house and told me how excited they are for me and this house.   They asked me if I was bringing my mom and dad to Haven, but I didn’t get them there.  Everyone wanted to meet them, but they would have been so out of their element!

Back door before

Here’s the little back door that goes outside from my laundry room/storage area downstairs.  My daddy is one who loves to put a roof over a doorway like this.  He likes to protect doors from the elements and they definitely do last longer when protected from the weather.  So, with my Lowes Creative Ideas blogging opportunity for June, we are going to add a cover over this door.

He went and bought lumber to get started and this was the very beginning that I snapped pics of at dusk one afternoon. That daddy of mine is so good at all of this and I’m grateful to have him.

He framed in the top and sloped a short roof.  We’ll eventually put a metal roof on top.

And here it is all framed in and almost finished.  The metal roof will go on top of this and it will all get painted out white.  Note:  we ended up using shingles and not a metal roof, which worked out great too.

Isn’t it cute?

Close up of the brackets.  We’ll add a bit more trim and then it will be done.

My daddy is so smart!

I love it, it’s so cute and will look so great when painted. Now hopefully this door will not get water damage. We had noticed that a bit of water comes in by this door when it rains, so it will be interesting to see if this stops it. Hope so!

I never showed you the finished master bedroom paint, so here is Moderate White (SW) again. I’m keeping my bedroom light and airy too and will probably keep my blue and white and add some green splashes in here.  Lots of greens and blues in this house this time around.  Love those 2 colors together.

Another thing my dad got done was tearing out the old vanity sink cabinet from in here.  This will be a great space for my antique vanity.

Can’t wait to use it!

And here’s the extra bedroom with Moderate White.

I’m loving the house so far, it is so much fun to see it come alive.  I know you all are so excited for me.  And a big shout out to Lowes for providing a giftcard for this project. That has been such a help to me to get this house finished.

I would use that much needed Lowes giftcard on supplies for our outdoor space. We need to spruce up landscaping, add some fun potted plants to the front porch and some new colorful door mats!

Hi, Your house is looking fabulous. I can’t believe the difference you are making. If I had a $100 gift card from Lowe’s, I would buy stain to spruce up my tired looking deck.

I just love how he framed over the door with a small roof. That adds so much to the area and will look wonderful finished up. Maybe you could do some small beds on each side of the door with some rocks to help out with the drainage when it rains. I would love to win the $100 from Lowes to be able to do some work with a stone walkway. I am wanting to make one from our house to our building where I work on all my wood projects and it would be so nice to have a clean pathway to walk to it when it’s all wet in the early mornings.

I just love all the work you’re doing on the house and it’s so great that your parents can help you with it all. Can’t wait to see the next progress.

I’d use the money for a fountain.

Your parents are amazing. How fun to have an opportunity to work with them!

I would landscape my small fenced area that I call the “dog yard”. I would like to build beds along the porch and put in some stepping stones.

Well, your Daddy is a go getter thats for sure! He doesn’t have a lazy bone in his body…. I would apply the Lowes gift card toward recreating a flower bed that is doing poorly. I have all kinds of good ideas after going on the garden tour a couple of weeks ago!
    Tks!

We have a door outside just like that and always had problems with the rain-so we hired someone to build a roof just like yours and it totally kept the water off the frame & door.

It was sooooo good to finally get to meet you this past week at Haven. All you gals did such an amazing job putting to all together. I had a blast!!

I’m just thrilled that I stumbled across your blog which I absolutely LOVE and became an instant fan! Keep up the good work!

I would love to win the Lowes gift card because when I bought my home 2 years ago both the front garden and back deck/yard needed some TLC and a lot of work. As you know it’s a slow process but one that I thoroughly enjoy! I’ve been working on it more this summer and the gift card would help out greatly; besides Lowes is like my 2nd home to me, I’m there at least twice a week.

    All my best ~ Dawn

Everything you are doing looks great! What a great Dad you have too!

If I won I would put it towards a new patio table at Lowes.

My deck needs help, that $100 could get me started on replacing boards that have rotted. I love seeing the progress on your new house, keep on truckin’.

Love the progress on the house. Your parents are fabulous!
I need some shrubbery around the house, so if I am the lucky one that is probably where my money would go. Thanks!

We need to refinish our deck. It’s looking kind of sad these days so I’d use a Lowe’s gift card toward supplies to make our deck look youthful and pretty again! 🙂
