Karran Sink and Formica Countertop

Getting my laundryroom together and making it stylish has really made me feel so good about that space now. What was once a dark and dreary storage/laundry room has now become a full fledged mudroom/laundryroom/storage area and the ugly has mostly been removed.  I can’t tell you how exciting that is!

I’m so fortunate to be able to work with some incredible companies during all my house renovations.  One company that I have recently worked with is Karran and they build integrated sinks along with Formica countertops.  In case you didn’t know this, you can now do undermount sinks and these integrated Karran sinks with laminate!  I know…amazing isn’t it?  I had no idea this could be done until just recently and wow, does it take laminate to a whole other level.

So, I wanted to show you all the details on the new sink and countertop in my laundry space.

laundry room sink

I ordered Calacatta Marble Formica laminate along with a Karran Nova sink.  It’s a white acrylic sink and these are molded together in the manufacturing process and then installed as one piece.

shelf over sink

We simply sat it on top of my new base cabinet and added liquid nails around the top of the cabinet to adhere the sink, which has a built-in backsplash.  I love it!

Karran sink

The Calacatta marble looks surprisingly real and the gray veins really enhance my gray cabinet that was stained and I showed that process earlier.  In case you haven’t looked at Formica and laminate lately, the new method of undermounting is SO cool!  I was blown away by that new feature and knew that it would be perfect for my laundry room choice.

This product is Calacatta Marble Formicaand there are several finishes to choose from, all gorgeous!

Nova sink

The sink is nice and deep and will come in handy for gardening projects, washing out paint brushes and many other mudroom chores, since this room has a door going out to my backyard.  A big huge thanks to Moen for sending me the new faucet, Anabelle in brushed stainless.  I have this same faucet in my kitchen in oil rubbed bronze.  I just love these gooseneck pull-down faucets and Anabelle has been a winner for me.  The built in soap dispenser puts it just where it’s needed and soap is always at the ready.

Calcutta Marble edge detail

Here you can see the Ogee edge detail I chose, one of the postformed edgesfrom Formica.  I could not be happier with my Formica countertop and Karran Nova sink.  I’m so thankful to be able to work with fabulous companies like this in my home to make it even better.

And hopefully you got some new inspiration on using laminate again.  It looks better than ever!

Disclosure:   I worked with Karran and Formica on my undermount sink and countertop and I’m so grateful for their support of my laundry room project with the donation of the countertop and sink.  I chose all the components for my countertop and sink and a local fabricator made it for me.  We picked it up and installed it ourselves.  Moen is also a wonderful sponsor of mine and has supplied all the faucets in my house.

Only a couch, a lamp and a table, and you are set for living! Only joking, Rhoda, but it’s all looking so good that you nearly could live in there. Glad for you.

Hi Rhoda! I love the Calcutta marble option with the Formica. I’m so glad you posted this, I was wondering whether or not you could do the undermount sink with Formica. I’ll probably go with Formica when I change out my kitchen countertops so it’s great to see how lovely it is and now I know I can have an undermount sink too. Nice.

No way! Undermounting sinks with laminate countertops?! That is so awesome! It definitely takes laminate counters to a whole new lever!

    That is so beautiful, Rhoda!

I can’t think of a single person who deserves such a lovely mudroom/laundry room more than you. I love your faucets! And knowing that your countertop is formica blows my mind. That puts it into an affordable range for folks like me who are desperately in need of kitchen countertops.

Thank you for this wonderful post.

We are in the process of renovating our kitchen and recently replaced our countertops with Formica 180FX Dulce Vita. Like yours it really is beautiful and people are amazed when they find out it is laminate.
    Your laundry room look amazing!

HI, Krystle, thanks for chiming in with your counters too. They look beautiful! I do love that laminate is a more affordable option for all & they have improved them greatly.

Laminate really is an amazing product and Formica is a wonderful brand. I think it’s great that they now offer such a wide range of choices–how cool to be able to order an undermount sink or a special edge! With such choices as natural stone being so very fashionable, it’s easy for homeowners to feel that they’ll never be able to afford the kind of kitchen they really want–but that’s not true! Formica countertops are beautiful, incredibly durable, and affordable. Your laundry shows clearly that a product doesn’t have to be uber-expensive to be highly desirable. Way to go, Rhoda!

Hello Miss Rhoda, I am in LOVE with the countertop. I am amazed that is Formica. Are you sure? Just kidding…looks so great. I just might consider it for my kitchen remodel as I need to do everything on a budget and the countertop is a hard place to know how to save. Thanks for sharing your beautiful laundry room.

You have done a wonderful job with the laundry room! I am so impressed with the look of the Formica and the selection of different edges. Yours looks so beautiful. I am planning to make a kitchen island and now I definitely want Formica for the countertop. Thank you for sharing this, it’s so helpful.

Love the countertop! Undermount is an interesting concept for formica, you will have to come back and let us know how it wears in a year or so.

It’s one of the nicest laundry rooms I have seen!

Gorgeous! From the photos, I would have never in a million years guessed that the countertop is formica. The only two places we have formica are at our laundry room sink and at our garage sink. No need to splurge for granite in those two places. As someone else said, Formica is durable and looks nice. We did not pick out our formica b/c we bought a spec home so the builder picked everything, but I surely would have gone with this same Calcutta Marble Formica that you used if I’d been picking. Very classy!

    Rhoda,
Laminate counter tops sure have come a long way, haven’t they! Your laundry room is such a beautiful space now. I was just talking with a friend yesterday about replacing her counter tops, and I’ll have to show her this post.

I love your choice of countertop here. Having seen a photo of your laundry room before, I thought this was marble. The edge contour definitely gives it a “real” look.

Okay, this formica is very cool. I have always thought that formica is underrated, but after seeing this, I know it is underrated. Really, I had no idea that they could integrate a sink, or that they had an ogee edge detail. Also love a built in soap dispenser and a pull out faucet head. I really found this very informative.
    Thanks, Patty

Rhoda, love your home renovation! Each home post is a delight and coming in second to the home are your parents, the National Teasures of your family. My question, what are those pop up ads on your blog? It is hard to read the blog and I’m not reading the ad, just looking for the X !

Hi, Libby, so sorry, I don’t like pop up ads either. They are not supposed to be doing that unless clicked on, so I’m hoping it goes away for you. Sorry!

Hi Rhoda, your new mud/laundry room is just lovely. I bet you look forward to doing your laundry. Please tell us about the fern botanicals on the wall behind the sink. Love those, as well. Are they available somewhere around Atlanta?

HI, Carol, those are actual bookplates that I got from Scott Antiques for $10 each. They have a vendor there with tables full of bookplates. IT’s a once a month antiques show.
