I don’t usually post on Thursdays, but I’ve got a little bit of an update on my sister and brother-in-law’s new build lake house in LA, so here you go. They have been busy down there working on things so I’m very excited to see the progress. Their builder is still telling them they will move in by the end of May, so that’s exciting too. There is still a lot to do, but they are moving along pretty fast.
If you missed the first LA Lake House posts of my sister and BIL, Renee and Bruce, I posted Part 1 and Part 2 updates here.
The new columns have been added on the front porch and you can see that new front door. Love it!
The stairs are going to be rock and the skirt will also be rock.
Info on their columns for anyone wondering: They got these composite columns from Poole Lumber Co. in Covington, LA. They are square fiberglass columns with cap & base & the brand on the picture she snapped is HB & G permacast columns, hbgcolumns.com at 1-800-264-4HBG. Theirs are 10Ă—10″ size. Hope that helps!
Love love the front door!
I’m not sure what this concrete pad is, but I bet it’s for the AC units.
They also decided to add a Honeywell whole house dehumidifier to the new build, which is a great idea for LA, such a humid state.
The windows and French doors are all in on the back of the house going out to the porches and they are wide open with no mullions letting in a lot of light. What a view they are going to have.
There’s not much inside to show yet, but the electrical has been done and they will be moving on to drywall soon. Then it will really get exciting.
Fireplace in the family room.
I see all the plumbing has been added too. You have to get those things out of the way first before all the pretty things happen. This is the kitchen wall where the range and ovens will be.
Upper porch French doors.
Upper porch views.
Lower porch French doors and windows.
So much light will be coming in the house.
On the backside of the house, the pool is coming along very well. The concrete shell has been added since the dig.
That’s a hot tub on the left side. It’s hard to see how it’s all going to look with the wood forms in place, but I can’t wait to see how it all turns out too. It’s funny that we’re both putting in pools at the same time.
View from above.
Tanning ledge end of the pool.
All the boards removed here. The ground has to be leveled and artificial turf added around the pool.
That’s it for this week! It’s looking so good and I can’t wait til they get further along and see all the pretty things come to life.

The new build looks beautiful! Looking forward to its progression. I am so jealous of your pools. They are going to be gorgeous beyond words. And the tanning areas in the pools, aaahhhh.

Thank you, Jan! We are so excited about our pools and fun that we are doing them at the same time. We’ve never had a pool growing up so it’s extra special for both of us.

Hi Rhoda, would you mind asking your sister for the brand name and material (vinyl, aluminum, something else) of the columns shown on her porches. I am currently redoing my home exterior and have not seen columns with such prominent astragals. Love her choice! Many thanks, Betty

HI, Betty, I asked my sister and here’s the info: They got these composite columns from Poole Lumber Co. in Covington, LA. I’m adding this info on the blog post for others who might be interested.

How exciting! I remember building a new home and once the drywall goes up things really take off! It’s a beautiful home and the pool will make it even more of a pleasure to live there.
