Once again this year, I have the opportunity to partner with Sherwin-Williams to redo a room, and my laundry room is the candidate. You’ve seen some progress in there since the beginning, but now it’s getting the final phase of makeovers done, and I can’t wait! This room is going to be combination laundry room, mudroom, storage, and gardening and you know I’ve added a sink in here to really make it useful. This post is all about choosing the paint colors in here.
There’s already a toilet stubbed in here too, so a toilet will go in the corner of my storage area and that will come in handy as well.
Let me tell you about some fun new color selection tools that are available at Sherwin-Williams now! One of them I really like is the ColorSnap Studio™ for iPad. You can download this tool, take a pic of your room with your iPad, and then define an area to paint or simply paint your space with the brush of a finger. Simple, right?
When starting a new project, this comes in so handy for finding the right color. Play around with it, and you’ll see for yourself. I use HGTV® HOME by Sherwin-Williams for the most part when I buy paint from them, and my local store has great customer service. I love working with them on my projects, not to mention their products are wonderful.
Match a photo:  If you see a color you love, simply take a pic and match the color in the photo to a Sherwin-Williams paint color for your room. You can play around with their color palette of over 1,500 colors to your heart’s content, finding just the right color for your project. All you have to do is download the ColorSnap Studio for iPad! These tools will come in handy for all sorts of projects around the house.

Just in case you’re new around here, this is the ugly space I started with when we purchased the house. UGLY to the max!

The walls are paper paneling and not at all pretty, but I was determined to make the best of my space.

I painted the floors with Sherwin-Williams Porch and Floor enamel (click that link to see the how-to’s), sealing it with a Wet Look Concrete Sealer, and it turned out fantastic.

As you can see here. This is where we left off last, and my dad and I added the baseboards and trim molding to the doors and floor. It was looking better already, but that was just one phase of my makeover. After one coat of white paint, it looked pretty good.
For my laundry room, I’m not going for high drama, so I chose a bright white for my space. There are no windows in here, so I have to take advantage of light walls, especially since I painted the ceilings black in here for an industrial look. This room is not a polished finished-out space, so I’m trying to make it as nice as possible, working with what I’ve got. You can see a stencil that I’m adding on this wall that will create some drama to this end of the laundry room.
I taped off the baseboards getting ready to paint. I chose Sherwin-Williams Alabaster for my white walls and trim. It will freshen up this space so much and with my gray and white striped floors, it will be so fun and snappy.
So, that’s the start to my final phase of the laundry room. It’s going to be so fun and cute in here now. I’ll be showing you the finished space soon on the washer/dryer side and it’s going to be a dramatic change, let me tell you! I’ve got big plans for hiding my ductwork too, so can’t wait to show you that.
I hope you’ll check out the new Sherwin-Williams color selection tools that are available to you on their website. They are a great company, and I love working with their paints.

I get color inspiration from so many places, including from the clothes I wear. If I like it enough to wear it, then it should look good on a wall! LOL! I also like to bring the outdoors inside and use nature as an inspiration. I live by the beach so that’s an easy one. Accessories also help to provide inspiration and a starting point to bringing all the colors of a room together.
My living room with 15′ floor-to-ceilings window dictated the color to us. Since I usually know in my mind what color(s) I want I use paint chips for a start and go from there.
I look at blogs and magazines. Found my new living room color on a blog.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I like to get ideas from blogs like yours and others. I also love the color green so many of my ideas come from nature.
I find inspiration by looking at design blogs, pinterest, and I visit open houses in my area. We will be selling our home next year and I am trying to get a sense of less is more when staging a house. The gift card would come in handy for paint for the bathrooms. Thank you.
Inspirations comes to me when I least expect it! A piece of pottery or colors in a painting that catch my eye! Your site is wonderful inspiration. I’ve follow you for a long time and I’m always amazed with your rooms. Your office nook from your other house I order a sample of your wallpaper. Love it!
I get color inspiration from friends and by looking online at different blogs.
I love Sherwin Williams. We are having the exterior of our house painted this week and are using Sherwin Williams paint.
Color inspiration is everywhere… art, nature, decorated spaces seen in person, on Pinterest/Houzz, in blogs, etc. I really think colors find me vs. me finding them. There are colors I am just drawn to, and come back to again and again. Would love to win your paint giveaway to freshen up the master bedroom and bath in our house.
Sherwin Williams has always been my go-to paint and I am about to paint again so would be great to win. I get my inspiration from nature, blogs (like yours) and all of the vast information available to us online! You never know where! Can’t wait to download the ipad app and play around with it. Your laundry room will be beautiful!
I am usually inspired by the fabrics I am working with.
thanks for a great give away!
I always use Sherwin Williams paints! The quality of the paint is excellent; I’ve never had any problems with coverage or durability. I am inspired by the soft yet vibrant and colorful colors in nature. I also look to the past, and draw from the 1940’s since the colors used then make me happy and cheery. Great idea with the Ipad app!
I usually love blues/green combos or neutral/warm earth tones but honestly I get inspired after I choose wrong color and have to repaint. So sad!
I tend to stick to neutral colors for my rooms.
I look in nature for color inspiration. I like to bring the outdoors into my home. Thanks!
Great post! I’m looking at paint cards, blogs like yours, and the ocean for color inspiration to paint a bedroom in my home this summer. I’ll download this app, too! It likely will make it much easier. Thanks again and your laundry room is lookin’ good. Can’t wait to see the stenciled wall!
I love pulling colors from artwork that will be hanging in the room.
I get color inspiration everywhere!! Nature, fabrics, blogs, magazines and books. And it is really fun to visit decorator showhouses also to get inspired. I really love low color schemes when I see pictures but not sure I could live with a whole house of it…..I tend toward the greens and blues also.
I find a lot of color inspiration through a lot of wonderful blogs (yours especially!), Pinterest and home magazines.
I get inspiration from blogs or just looking at the paint chips and deciding what fits my room best.
I usually am inspired by a fabric or another look I love. Sometimes it’s a photo of a room that I love and I try to figure out what is really speaking to me in the room. Love what you’re doing and love your blog!
