I didn’t do a lot of yardsales this weekend, but did stop by a couple of them on the way to meet up with a long-time online decorating buddy that I met up with in Oxford, AL. She was in Atlanta on business from CA and drove over to meet me. I’ll share that later on. We did some antique shopping.
One stop, I found this pretty lamp for $5. Not sure where I’ll put it, but I really loved the shape and colors for that price. It actually looks pretty cute in my laundry room. This summery and bright dress was $2.Not the most flattering pic, but I even have some pretty pink shoes to go with it. There is pink in there, even though it looks all red. And I found a bag to match for $5, by Cappelli. I found this at an estate sale and oh, my gosh, did it have the stuff. And by that, I mean, the lady could have been on The Hoarders show. This was all in the driveway. Lots of retro old garden and porch things. This was all left on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday they were having a 1/2 price sale. There was a TON of stuff left. And out-building full of Christmas stuff.
Basement storage, more Christmas stuff. This is just a small part of what I saw. Upstairs bedroom.Linen closet.
And this was the master bedroom, FULL of shoes and purses and clothes. TONS! They said the lady was in her 70’s and loved to buy things. Really?! This sale gave a whole new meaning to the phrase, “you can’t take it with you”. When I go in estate sales, it does make me sad to think about the end of a person’s life like this. All their things out there for people to rummage through. Do you think about that too?
This was FREE from another sale, a solid wood pantry or cabinet door of some type. I figured it could be made over for something useful.
The back side of it, it actually looks like it would be perfect for a chalkboard, all you’d have to do is spray this side with chalkboard paint. If I don’t use it for something, I’ll pass it on to someone else.
So, now it’s YOUR turn for the party this week! What have YOU found lately. Add your link to the Linky list and remember our guidelines for the party:
- Add your permalink to the link list, which is the actual post that you did for this party, NOT your general blog url. To get the actual post, after you publish the post, just click on the title and THAT will be your party post url. Last year, I can’t tell you how many links I had to fix. This year I might get mean & delete them, so PLEASE try to get the correct url in the first time! 🙂
- Please add my button to your post or blog OR at least link back to this post in your post. That’s all I ask. It’s common courtesy to link back to the person having the party, so that all of your readers can find it too.
- Please do NOT link to an Etsy shop or something similar (even if you think it’s a fabulous deal) or I will delete the link. This party is for sharing thrifty finds from yardsales, thriftstores, or something along those lines. If I see that your post is not really on track with this theme AND you don’t link back, I’ll delete your link. Sorry, but I’d like to keep the party consistent! IF YOU SEE THAT YOUR LINK HAS BEEN DELETED, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN LINE WITH THIS PARTY THEME.
Let’s have some fun this week with the Thrifty Treasures party!

Great finds, Rhoda! What a cute dress! And I think you might be right about that sale…definite material for The Hoarders! Can’t wait to see what you do with the pantry door! Happy week!…hugs…Debbie

Hi Rhoda, you got some wonderful things again! The lamp is a beautiful shade of green, and you’ve gotta work some magic on that pantry door! Please stop by and see my porch. I finished (not happy with the tabletop….looking for a glass top table at Goodwill). I do like the green, black, white, tan fabrics….kinda of like your Atlanta porch. Linda (p.s. I’m going to work on my basement, especially after seeing the hoarder pics.)

Very cute dress Rhoda…the pink shoes are the perfect addition. Thanks for hosting your party.

I do love auctions/estate sales and I have often thought it was sad that someone owned and possibly treasured their stuff just for it to be disbursed in boxes to the highest bidder.
But your post made me laugh when I remembered a local radio station was joking around saying “you know you’re in trouble when you watch Hoarders for tips on garage sale-ing.”

Thanks for the event Rho! Love You!

Awww, the poor ol’ doll. At least some of her things went to someone who appreciates them 🙂

Wowie- that woman had Imelda Marcos shoe tendencies!! LOL That was a lot of stuff in that house. Fun dress and purse you found. And I like that sharp looking lamp, too.

I also feel “Odd” while looking through an Estate Sale.. “It’s someones life”… I don’t think I want my kids having an Estate Sale when I go.. just donate it all to Goodwill!
You did find some good stuff!!

I was just at an estate sale and said the same thing to my hubby. I felt a bit sad for the person who was sort of on display in a sense. With all their belongings laid out and waiting for people to rummage through them. I think that door would be great as a chalk board Rhoda, thanks for hosting this fun party!
Rebecca@This Present Life says
Wow, seems like you did pretty well! I love the fabric of that dress! I was laughing reading your post because only a blogger would take pictures at an estate sale 🙂
Kim says
That is such a cute dress on you!
Jennifer says
Great finds this week Rhoda! Well, at least she looked like a organized hoarder! lol!

You look adorable in that dress. The reason I have a garage sale every year is so that my family won’t have to deal with a situation like the estate sale you went to. I could easily become a hoarder, lol!
Sharon says
Oh my gosh, Rhoda. I just saw the exact lamp at Goodwill a couple of days ago. I picked it up, looked at it and didn’t get it. I just might have to go back and hope that it’s there.

Rhoda, Love your finds for the weekend. I also feel that way about estate sales. My MIL has a house full of primitive antiques and she jokes that me and her daughter will sell things for $2.00 when they are worth much more. I get a kick out of aggravating her about it. I tell her to label the bottoms so that we know what everything is.

Rhoda, I don’t believe it! For years, my sister lived in a big white house on Main Street in Oxford, Alabama! She now lives in Anniston, at Fort McClellan. She still attends First Baptist Church in Oxford. I wonder if she and your friend know each other.
It’s a small world, isn’t it?
Rhoda says
Hey, Joyce, that’s neat! My friend is from CA & was in Atlanta on business, so she drove over to meet me in Oxford. We just putzed around for a couple hours, looking at a few antique shops.
Beth says
Hey Rhoda, Wow I love that dress and you have a great figure!
Yes, it is very sad to think of the people who died and I do feel bad going through their things, I just try to be very respectful while I am there and if it’s a family selling the goods…I always ask about the deceased and let them know that I will treasure my find!
I love that door and it would be a cool chalk board! xoxo Beth

I love the dress you found – so cute!
Yes, estate sales make me a bit sad, especially if the person seems to have too much stuff.
Pat@Back Porch Musings says
I love the lamp, Rhoda.
The dress is cute.
I’ve often thought about the people when at estate sales or auctions. It’s a bittersweet time for the families, too.
This weekend was our subdivision sale. I spent a total of $25 cash and did a little trading, too. All in all, a great sale for us, with a tidy profit and wonderful found treasures, too.
Jess @ Frugal with a Flourish says
That dress is so cute! And wow was that a lot of stuff! I guess part of it is sad but I really feel for the family more than the person that passed. It is probably so stressful on them to have to go through and “value” someone who they loved things. But it is kind of a necessary evil if there is a lot of stuff to move through. But that is just my two cents!
PS – Thanks for hosting too!
