Pinch me, just go ahead and pinch me now! 🙂
I hardly know where to begin with this big announcement, but I’ll just start off by telling all of you that I’m thrilled (just thrilled) to be part of a HUGE project with BlogHer and Macy’s and today is the kickoff. This project will continue through July, so you’ll be hearing from me, as well as everyone else, on several different topics throughout the event.
I, along with 7 other bloggers will be kicking off this campaign with the first topic, which is all about what to wear for those special occasions that arise, as well as how we dress at home. So, get ready for a fun time of brainstorming on this blog, as well as all the other blogs that will be participating in this fun event.
And, wait til I tell you the part that almost had me peeing my pants! (and that’s not hard to do these days) 🙂
I’m joining 3 other fabulous BlogHer bloggers (along with our co-hosts) for this exciting promotion and the key person in the middle of all of this is none other than Ree, The Pioneer Woman herself.
Get this: We will all be GOING TO THE RANCH TO MEET REE ! All of us will be filming a video with her during this 4 month promotion, at 4 different times. I can hardly contain my glee!!! I must have jumped up and down for 1/2 an hour when I got the news that I was chosen for this fun escapade. I’m SO blessed!
Sqqqqqqqqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Just had to get that out since I’ve been holding this secret in for about a week now.
OK, I’m trying to contain my excitement, but I’ve been a huge fan of Ree’s for almost 3 years now. My episode will film at the end of June, so between now and then you may just have to hear about a million times, how super excited I am about this opportunity. You never know when what you’ve wished for may come true. I gushed about Ree in this post, since I’ve made many of her recipes and jokingly whined that I wish I would get an invitation to the ranch. Wonders never cease! Y’all, I’m going to the ranch!
Pssst, Ree, would you pleeeeeeeease make some of those world-famous cinnamon rolls when my group comes out there?? 🙂
So, back to the topic at hand:
What is black tie, Southern Style? Have you been invited to a special dress-up fancy-schmancy party lately and what did you wear?
(via Dark Black Dress)
Let’s talk about what to wear on those occasions when we are invited to a very special event. What does black tie mean these days, anyway? Is it an Oscar-worthy floor-length dress? Or will cocktail length work? Does your guy need to wear a tux? I definitely think Black tie has relaxed a bit from what it used to mean, so long or short is probably appropriate. But, you’ve gotta have some bling!
(from Style Frizz)
Unless I was absolutely certain that everyone would be wearing evening gowns, I might think that Black tie these days in the South, just might mean a sparkly top and nice dress pants OR the always popular “little black dress”. Do ya’ll actually own several little black dresses? I think I may have a couple that would qualify. But, I can’t think of the last time we went to an event that was really fancy black-tie. We did dress up last year and go to The Club for an event and I wore a cute top that I found at a yardsale for, I think a big whoppin’ $1, with dressy black pants and hubby wore a coat and tie.
So, what does a special night out for YOU look like? What would you wear? and how would you fix your hair and makeup?
(from Mac makeup)
Nighttime makeup should be richer and deeper and a lot more sultry than daytime, don’t you think? And getting the hair just right is so very important. A girl’s gotta feel good about her hair.
And let’s talk about day-time.
How do you dress when you’re at home? I have to confess, it’s yoga pants and sweatshirts or T’s for me. If I’m not going out, I don’t bother with makeup, but I always wear something on my face when I leave the house, even if I’m going to the gym or running errands. I don’t want to scare anyone I come in contact with. And I usually end up staying in my gym clothes all day, they are just so comfy.
(from Stylehive)
How about you? Talk to me about those dressy special occasions AND your normal day-time attire?
This is the time to interact and leave comments. They will be using some of the comments and ideas in our video sessions, so PLEASE join in! Let’s have some fun discussions on this, as we all figure out just HOW to put it all together.
All the hosts for this special promotion are listed here. I hope you’ll go over and get in on the conversations on their blogs too. There are sure to be some lively discussions:
Episode 1: Sheila from Xiaolin Mama, joined by Sheila will be Loralee from Loralee’s Looney Tunes in the first episode.
Episode 2: Susan at Friday Playdate
Episode 3: Holly at Nothing But Bonfires
Episode 4: Ree at The Pioneer Woman
Episode 5: Rhoda
BlogHer‘s Putting It All Together is a new collaborative video series talking about what really works for us, from lifestyle to personal style — and you’re a part of it. We need your best advice, funniest stories, and great photos. We’ll be blogging your great ideas, and featuring some of them in the videos we’re shooting at the ranch of Ree, aka Pioneer Woman. How exciting for you Rhoda! I can only imagine how wonderful this opportunity is for you! I do have to admit that I am jealous of your trip to the ranch. WOW! Congratulations on this project!
I guess when it comes to dressing up and going out, I am rather old-fashioned. …..I dress-up for those Black-tie occasions (not that I get to do that very often). That means a tux for Audley and a “black dress” or other appropriate (or stylish) gown for me. We are in the midst of planning our 20 year class reunion, which is to take place in July, and we have made dress black-tie. I’ll be searching like mad for that perfect dress for the next several months, without a doubt!
As for daytime wear, I am partial to warm-up suits in the winter, cropped pants and cute tops (I love a tunic top) in the summer. I spend a lot of time out with the kids since I have one that is in the band and plays basketball, one who takes guitar and plays soccer and another who is year-round soccer, so I do wear make-up all of the time. I don’t feel dressed if I go out without it! I always have my jewelery on as well (Earrings, necklace, ring). It’s a preference that I have had for years. When the other girls in college wore pj’s to 7:30 classes, I was always made-up. That is the way I was raised and I am raising my girls to be the same way
ANyhow, you probably don’t want to hear anymore of my rambling as I have written you a book!
Have a fabulous Day, and once again, CONGRATULATIONS!
Jennifer

First off, congratulations! What a huge honor! I am looking forward to reading all of your (and the other selected bloggers’ posts)!
Second – fashion is my other addiction! I am a believer that I’d rather be over dressed than underdressed so a Black Tie event would be an excuse to pull out one of my nicest little black dresses. More important than anything I would have to say would be that you have to have a pair of elegant shoes! Nice heels can change any old dress into something fabulous.
As for when I am at home – I always do my best to look nicely. I am a big fan of pumps so I generally wear some stylish shoes regardless of what clothes I’m wearing. If I am dressing down in sweats, you can bet I have a cute pair of funky sneakers on!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I can feel your excitement. I am so happy for you. I love Ree too, I was just printing out recipes from your site yesterday. I would love to go to her ranch too, what a treat that would be. I know you are going to tell us all about it…take lots of pics {wink}….
I for one don’t mind hearing about your excitement over and over. 🙂
Have a blessed week,
Cindy

Get OUT OF HERE! So exciting for ya’ll!!!!!
As for going out, I agree with you on wearing black. I don’t get out much (wink) but when I do I love to wear a simple black dress with special accessories. You can’t go wrong with a sheath dress, either, in a basic color with pearls and cool earrings. My issue with dressing in Nashville is this lovely inbetween time. It’s “supposed” to be spring now but yesterday it was FREEZING so I wore boots, jeans, and a fun top and necklace out last night with hubby to dinner. Our girls are with the inlaws for 2 nights for spring break.
Around the house on the weekends and at night I am much like you. I swear yoga pants (much nicer than sweats) and a t-shirt. I have some cool Mary Jane type athletic shoes I bought in Asheville at a cool outdoor store that are awesome. They are “dressier” than tennis shoes. In the summer I am all about the khaki shorts, t-shirt, and black sandals or fun colored flip flops!

How wonderful for you! I know you’re thrilled.
I would think dressy black pants, silky tank and sequined or richly embellished jacket of some kind would be what I would wear nowadays. I’m probably a little older than most of your readers (62) and like my arms covered. I also like the line that this outfit gives me. It actually is a variation of my standard outfit. Substitute shirt for jacket, jeans or other casual pants, and cotton tank and there you go. Daytime at home is knit pants or jeans and shirt. I always wear flats not sneakers. I like my sleeves 3/4 rolled and I feel put together in case I need to run out or answer the door. I never wear sweats because I feel one tends to feel sloppy and it spills over to the brain! Lord knows I need all my brain cells up and running! I always put a little light make-up on. We have a small business that is partially based at home, so I feel that I’m in gear that way. I know I feel and function better when I look good. I know I wouldn’t want to see my hubs looking like a slob, so why would i look like one for him?

This is very exciting! I can’t think of a better person to talk about fashion. You always look fabulous! I haven’t been to a fancy even in a long time. Probably the last time was in 07 and it was my cousin’s wedding. The wedding was at a church and the reception was at a fancy country club. I wore a dressy, silky top with black dress pants. On a normal day, I am in jeans, cords or yoga pants. I don’t wear makeup unless I’m going to church or actually OUT somewhere (which doesn’t happen often haha). I decided though the other day that I need to wear makeup more often. I need to look my best all the time. I’m at the point where I’m tired of being single so I need to look good when I’m out. Know what I mean? 🙂

What a wonderful opportunity for you Rhoda. I am so excited for you. That is awesome!! I don’t go to many black tie events, but would wear a cute black cocktail dress. For day wear, in the winter, I am usually seen in jeans and a sweater/cardigan. In the summer I live in capris. You won’t catch me in shorts with all my spider veins. Love & blessings from NC!

Congrats to you. I love it when women have worked hard to make a well-rounded and beautiful blog and get rewarded for it. I read your every day. Coincidentally, I live less than an hour from Pioneer Woman! Welcome to Oklahoma!!!

Rhoda, how exciting! This is a project I look forward to reading all about.
Now I have to tell you, we haven’t done anything black tie since we went on a cruise 10 years ago. I’m fine with that! We are much more comfortable living more casually. When we go out to special dinners and things it’s never quite as dressy as black tie. A new dress and heels makes me happy. 🙂
At home I live in jeans in the winter and capris in the summer. I’ve become addicted to What Not to Wear so I defiitely do try to spice it up with cute tops and sweaters, jewelry, etc. I wear makeup every single day no matter what! My eyes don’t feel open without mascara. Love to spritz on a little perfume or yummy smelling lotion too.
Now bring on that great information. Macys is my go to store here in Oklahoma City so I can’t wait what you show us.

Congrats! And how lucky is that to meet Ree! And at her ranch!! I have to ask (and this shows I am NEW to blogging) what is “BlogHer”? Do you have to join it? And if so what are the benefits? In answer to your questions about style. I don’t have a little black dress (haven’t had one since I was 21 and that was a long, long time ago). Even the last two family weddings I went to the majority of folks there were in non-formal wear. Many came in what I would call just nice casual. For everyday activities I dress for comfort now. If it’s not comfortable or doesn’t look nice on me I don’t wear it.

Congratulations! This is such exciting news. I am jealous that you are going to the Ranch, I have wanted to go to one of her cooking sessions.
Treasia says
First off let me say a huge “congratulations” for being chosen and for getting to go to “Ree’s” ranch. I have to admit I’m somewhat jealous over that one!
Now on to what this little southern lady calls “black tie” and how to dress for it. Living in Arkansas all of my life (or the major majority anyway) I have gone to several black tie events over the years. Yes, we do have them here. LOL. For me it’s an occasion to dress up all out. I have the cocktail length and the long black dress. I think the shoes and jewelry are what set them off. You can take a plain little black dress and either dress it up or down depending on the style of shoe and jewelry you wear. Of course what style you choose to wear your hair also has a lot to do with this as well. And don’t forget the wrap, bling up or down on this one.
For everyday wear I must admit (since I work from home) that my everyday wear is either my comfortable pj’s or sweat suits in winter. For summer it’s always a comfortable sun dress and barefoot.

I am officially jealous! I would love to go to Ree’s ranch! Congrats!

Rhoda, I’m so happy for you! What fun you’ll have! BlogHer and Macy’s couldn’t have picked a better person for this.
I’m a blue jeans girl. I wear jeans nearly every day, except in the hottest days of summer. Jeans and my Dansko clogs.
For evening, I love a dressy top with black pants. It’s hard to beat that combo if you ask me. We almost never do honest-to-goodness “black tie,” but when we do, we go all out. If the invitation specifies black tie, my husband wears his tuxedo and his special-order black bow tie (he’s huge, so he had to order an extra-long tie to be able to get the thing to look right!). And if he’s in a tux, I’m in an evening gown. We usually go to a charity ball once a year, and that’s about it. But we savor it for that one night!
