Pinch me, just go ahead and pinch me now! 🙂
I hardly know where to begin with this big announcement, but I’ll just start off by telling all of you that I’m thrilled (just thrilled) to be part of a HUGE project with BlogHer and Macy’s and today is the kickoff. This project will continue through July, so you’ll be hearing from me, as well as everyone else, on several different topics throughout the event.
I, along with 7 other bloggers will be kicking off this campaign with the first topic, which is all about what to wear for those special occasions that arise, as well as how we dress at home. So, get ready for a fun time of brainstorming on this blog, as well as all the other blogs that will be participating in this fun event.
And, wait til I tell you the part that almost had me peeing my pants! (and that’s not hard to do these days) 🙂
I’m joining 3 other fabulous BlogHer bloggers (along with our co-hosts) for this exciting promotion and the key person in the middle of all of this is none other than Ree, The Pioneer Woman herself.
Get this: We will all be GOING TO THE RANCH TO MEET REE ! All of us will be filming a video with her during this 4 month promotion, at 4 different times. I can hardly contain my glee!!! I must have jumped up and down for 1/2 an hour when I got the news that I was chosen for this fun escapade. I’m SO blessed!
Sqqqqqqqqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Just had to get that out since I’ve been holding this secret in for about a week now.
OK, I’m trying to contain my excitement, but I’ve been a huge fan of Ree’s for almost 3 years now. My episode will film at the end of June, so between now and then you may just have to hear about a million times, how super excited I am about this opportunity. You never know when what you’ve wished for may come true. I gushed about Ree in this post, since I’ve made many of her recipes and jokingly whined that I wish I would get an invitation to the ranch. Wonders never cease! Y’all, I’m going to the ranch!
Pssst, Ree, would you pleeeeeeeease make some of those world-famous cinnamon rolls when my group comes out there?? 🙂
So, back to the topic at hand:
What is black tie, Southern Style? Have you been invited to a special dress-up fancy-schmancy party lately and what did you wear?
(via Dark Black Dress)
Let’s talk about what to wear on those occasions when we are invited to a very special event. What does black tie mean these days, anyway? Is it an Oscar-worthy floor-length dress? Or will cocktail length work? Does your guy need to wear a tux? I definitely think Black tie has relaxed a bit from what it used to mean, so long or short is probably appropriate. But, you’ve gotta have some bling!
(from Style Frizz)
Unless I was absolutely certain that everyone would be wearing evening gowns, I might think that Black tie these days in the South, just might mean a sparkly top and nice dress pants OR the always popular “little black dress”. Do ya’ll actually own several little black dresses? I think I may have a couple that would qualify. But, I can’t think of the last time we went to an event that was really fancy black-tie. We did dress up last year and go to The Club for an event and I wore a cute top that I found at a yardsale for, I think a big whoppin’ $1, with dressy black pants and hubby wore a coat and tie.
So, what does a special night out for YOU look like? What would you wear? and how would you fix your hair and makeup?
(from Mac makeup)
Nighttime makeup should be richer and deeper and a lot more sultry than daytime, don’t you think? And getting the hair just right is so very important. A girl’s gotta feel good about her hair.
And let’s talk about day-time.
How do you dress when you’re at home? I have to confess, it’s yoga pants and sweatshirts or T’s for me. If I’m not going out, I don’t bother with makeup, but I always wear something on my face when I leave the house, even if I’m going to the gym or running errands. I don’t want to scare anyone I come in contact with. And I usually end up staying in my gym clothes all day, they are just so comfy.
(from Stylehive)
How about you? Talk to me about those dressy special occasions AND your normal day-time attire?
This is the time to interact and leave comments. They will be using some of the comments and ideas in our video sessions, so PLEASE join in! Let’s have some fun discussions on this, as we all figure out just HOW to put it all together.
All the hosts for this special promotion are listed here. I hope you’ll go over and get in on the conversations on their blogs too. There are sure to be some lively discussions:
Episode 1: Sheila from Xiaolin Mama, joined by Sheila will be Loralee from Loralee’s Looney Tunes in the first episode.
Episode 2: Susan at Friday Playdate
Episode 3: Holly at Nothing But Bonfires
Episode 4: Ree at The Pioneer Woman
Episode 5: Rhoda
BlogHer‘s Putting It All Together is a new collaborative video series talking about what really works for us, from lifestyle to personal style — and you’re a part of it. We need your best advice, funniest stories, and great photos. We’ll be blogging your great ideas, and featuring some of them in the videos we’re shooting at the ranch of Ree, aka Pioneer Woman. This is a really cool program that you are doing with Macy’s. My special event garb is somewhat limited and frankly I buy a lot of it on sale because I just don’t wear it that often. I am going to give Macy’s a shout out because I do get a lot of my eveningwear there and they’ve always had a good selection (not, just for teens and skinny girls, if you know what I mean!). My favorite outfit is a long black Tahari dress (thank you macy’s) and a blue silk jacket I bought in India. It’s a great outfit for these types of occassions.
Andrea Trautman says
I didn’t read the above comments, so I could be repeating myself.
But, usually, a short(er) dress is fine for black tie. One can never go wrong with a black dress. Even Target has some nice looking black dresses at very affordable prices. Another great store for affordability is H & M. They always have something and both Target and H & M have famous-label guest designers. And, both have jewelry.
Even if you’re going to wear a black dress you already have – accessorizing is key. Get some knock-out shoes, bold jewelry (like a “bib” necklace), and a gorgeous clutch. You can never go wrong with an outfit like that!

When I know it is time to dress up for a special occasion I “dress up” !! When I put on a nice dress and do my hair and makeup it makes me feel that much better about myself. I hardly ever get to dress up being a stay at home homeschooling mom of 3 who has time and energy to do something like that? Not me for sure!
So I use these special occasions to feel better about myself and actually take the time to do everything and dress extra special. I can admit though I don’t change my make up alot for day vs. evening though. I love wearing dark eyeshadow and the smoky look so thats what I do when I wear make up. My hair is pretty much the same most of the time too because I have it cut in an inverted bob so I don’t have many options.

Congrats to you! How exciting and fun!
As far as black tie, black dress! And it depends on who is hosting as to length.

How exciting, Rhoda. 🙂
I am on the go alot, preschool drop-off, errands, MOPS meetings etc. I like to wear jeans, a cute top/sweater, and a fabulous pair of shoes. No matter how fat I get, my shoes will always look amazing. 😉

Congrats , Rhoda!
What a wonderful opportunity. And a fun one.
Looking forward to hearing more about this adventure.
Sweet dreams.

Wow, wow, WOW!!! How exciting! Can you pack me in your suitcase???
I am totally with you – I wear comfy clothes when at home – all the time, even if that means dressing and undressing three times a day. It’s totally worth it.
I do have a little black dress that I bought for Blogher, and I’m really looking for another occasion to use it! Not nearly enough opportunities for such.

Great News, Rhoda! I am sooo happy for you! It sounds like a lot of fun.
I don’t get dressed up much these days with four boys running around my house. But I am partial to black and sleeveless when I do.
At home, you can find me in yoga pants and t-shirts…it’s all about comfort there!
Blessings!

Congratulations!
I don’t get to dress up (whether black tie or what have you) very often so my personal preference is to “go big or go home”, meaning I pull out all the stops. I make sure that my hair is perfect, including a hair accesory if it works with my attire; my makeup is flawless, a beautiful (floor length) gown and pretty accessories (necklace, earrings and don’t forget the handbag). Every woman should feel like the belle of the ball from time to time.
My daily attire is usually jeans, t-shirt, cardigan and flats. If I plan on meeting the girls for coffee then I might punch it up a bit with a bangle and some dangly earrings but usually the more comfortable I can make myself the better my attitude will be, which the innocent bystanders appreciate. 🙂

that is amazing – congrats!!
I don’t get the opportunity to dress up often, so when I do I like to go all out. I have a trip to vegas and a labor day weekend wedding coming up this year. For Vegas, I want to get a few sparkly cocktail dresses and I’d love to have a light, flowy floor length gown for the wedding.
For every day, when I’m home I am in sweats and t-shirts all the time. I normally change within 5 minutes of getting home. If I go out for errands, jeans, a sweatshirt, ponytail and little to no make-up. But if I am going to spend time with friends, I go for jeans with a cute top and I do my hair and make-up.

What a great idea for a program. Can’t wait to seeing you be the star of the video! If I am going out on the town, I love wearing a sun dress and cute sandals (In the warmer weather anyway) For just hanging around the house, some comfy cotton pants and tank top is always nice.
Just bought a very formal evening gown for a wedding from Macy’s recently here in NJ. Long and navy blue. I’m going to look for some silver sandals to match.

How exciting for you, Rhoda! 🙂 What a great opportunity!
I guess when it comes to dressing up, I do dress for the occasion. Sometimes nice pants, but usually a skirt or dress. I love a pretty dress (that’s just above knee length & not a wrinkly fabric) with some great shoes & a feminine/pretty cardigan or wrap to wear if I’m chilly. I tend to just do one “major” accessory statement (chunky necklace, blingy earrings, or stacked bracelets) & then go more subtle on the other pieces. Definitely a “smoky eye” makeup look & right now I flat-iron my hair.
For an everyday look I am pretty basic. This is my everyday “uniform”: Great jeans & a cute top (again, non-wrinkly) like a rosette embellished scoopneck tee, or a cardigan with a ruffled edge & a tank top. Fun jewelry for sure! Boots, ballet flats, or flip-flops (depending on the outfit/season) rounds it out. I definitely wear makeup whenever I’m out, at least some mascara & lip gloss if nothing else! And my hair is still flat-ironed and sometimes tucked back behind my ears. I feel better when I’m “put together”! And Hubby likes it too!! 🙂
Eat some cinnamon rolls for me when you get to visit! 🙂
Blessings,
Stacey

Rhoda, not being from the south I am not sure exactly what the ranch and The pioneer woman is. Sorry!! But, with that being said I can tell how thrilled you are and it sounds like a huge big deal to be on such a fun project and you relate so well to people you will be AMAZING!! I look forward to following along and picking up some pointers. I love Fashion and make-up so this is right up my ally. Congratulations, it sounds as if God is taking you on another wonderful journey my friend.
The only time I would dress in formal attire is for a wedding or on a cruise. I always wear cocktail length, long looks too matronlly for me. The dress will be simple but with color and some great statement jewelry. Hair always soft and maybe a little fluffier,make-up more dramatic. I also bought an amazing black tuxedo pant suit that is timeless and it a Wow with just great earrings and a simple heel.
Around the house yoga pants and polo’s. Out I wear jeans and a cute top and a hoodie or jacket depending on weather. Summer it is crop pants even thought I know I am too short for them , it is just too hot not to wear them. I actually wear skirts, tshirts and flip flops more than anything. I need to be as tall and lean as you to wear the crop pants. Oh I am just getting excited writing this. This is going to be so fun. You go Girl!! Congrats!!!!!! Kathysue

Congratulations on such a wonderful opportunity! I’m looking forward to seeing how it works!
And on to fashion talk…I can’t say that I go to too many fancy events, but I think the LBD (little black dress) is appropriate no matter what the occasion is. I like to add a chunky gold bracelet or earrings to make it more fun.
At home, I change into “comfy clothes” the minute I step in the house. It’s usually cotton pants/shorts and a t-shirt. I’m trying to dress it up a little with cuter pajamas lately : )
Also wanted to let you know I gave you a blog award because you’re so amazing : ) http://tinyurl.com/ygjre6o

How exciting for you to be attending a black tie event and to go to the ranch for a visit.
Ahhh……black tie, what does it mean to me? Well, I’m in the Northeast and have attended a few black tie “corporate” events, which always means long gown for me and tux for DH. We also like to cruise, and attend the “formal nights” by dressing up in either a long dress or a fancy cocktail dress (me), a tux or dark suit (DH). We try to coordinate my dress w/ his tie 🙂
After watching the Oscar’s I’m planning a one shoulder gown for an upcoming cruise to the Mediterranean. Look at magazines and figure out what “your” style is. There really is no right or wrong about what to wear, but genreally “black tie” means more formal than any other type of event.
I think it’s great that you’ll have a chance to mix/mingle with others and to express your creative outlet via your clothing and how you outfit yourself! What fun!!!
Hair and make-up: pull out all the stops! Go for a mani and a pedi…..go for the glam! Go to Nordstroms or Sephora for a make-up “make-over” (no obligation to buy!)
You’re smart, saavy and have a cute figure….go for it and let your inner-self glow!

You lucky thing, getting to meet The Pioneer Woman herself! Wow! Congratulations are in order.
