Putting it all Together: Styling with Shoes

Shoes! Mention shoes to most any woman and you’ll get some sort of reaction. Mostly big smiles and eager talk about our favorite pairs, from what I know about our gender. We love us some shoes.  I’m not immune either to being a shoe hoarder and my shoe love goes way back. Buying a new pair of shoes is right up there at the top of retail therapy, just the right cure for any emotional ailment that we might be faced with.

So, here’s a peek inside my closet.  I have one of those shoe sorters that hold 25 pair.  You can see that I have so many that they don’t all fit in there. This doesn’t include the 4 pair of boots that have their own box, as well as several other pairs in boxes.  I’d say my shoe obsession reaches around 35-40 or so, counting boots, not so bad from what I’ve seen out there.

A recent Spring addition from Target.

There’s just something about putting a cute pair of shoes on your feet that instantly cheers a girl up, don’t you think? And if you’ve been reading my blog very long, you will remember that I’ve posted about shoes before.

I keep all my flip-flops in a big basket on top of my closet shelves and pull it down to take out a pair or two.  Are you addicted to flip-flops too?

Favorite yardsale shoes by Crocs, scored from the Blissdom conference.

So, which pair of shoes were your smartest purchase ever??

I’m going to have to vote for these Steve Madden suede flat slouch boots I ordered this year.  I have enjoyed them SO much with tucked in jeans, dresses and skirts.  And the fact that they are flat is a big plus.  They are super comfy.

So, tell me what was your smartest purchase evah?

I’ve showed my closet, now show me yours!

I have to say I’m up there with the best of ’em when it comes to shoe love but no way would I show my closet of them right now! If I ever find the time to clean out my closet plus all the shoes, I could justify buying some new ones. I’ve been thinking of getting those shoe boxes that slide under the bed and hold about 20 pair each, wonder if that would work?

I see you have some yellow box sandals, aren’t they fabulous? I have a pair in almost every color but wear out the brown and black every year.

    Later gator!

Oh you are SO lucky!! I wanted those zebra flats SO bad from Target and couldn’t find my size. Opted for a bronze pointy flat instead. 🙁 Love your collection. As far as smartest shoes purchase ever: beaded Unisa thong with a small heel. I got for for $17 on clearance from a department store, while I was walking back to my car! Just a random purchase, but I have gotten more wear out of those shoes than any others I’ve ever purchased. LOVE THEM!

I love all shoes, you name them, I love them. Except real high shoes, I could never wear over 2 1/2 inch heels. My best and favorite purchase ever was my black crocs, like your leopard ones. They are worn out from being worn so much, I need a new pair.

My husband says I have a lot of shoes but I think I’m under 40 pairs which I think is reasonable. 😛 My Tory Burch and Cole Haan black high heels are absolute investment pieces. Even if I never wear heels I can throw them on and they match everything. I also have a pair of vintage engineer boots that get lots of wear during the winter. They are probably from the 70s and they were built to last!

I have a few shoe posts too if anyone is interested:

    Hi Rhoda,
Oh you are so clever. You knew you’d get a ton of comments by bringing up the subject of shoes, didn’t you?!! I just bought a new pair today – matte bronzey-gold loafers. I love them. But my favorite pair are the riding boots I got last winter. Tall, with a croc embossed top part with a strap and buckle, soft brown leather, stacked comfortable 1″ heel, they are so comfy and cool looking! And my leopard print Carlos Santana flats with the red leather rose are great too. And then….well I could go on, but I won’t . I think you get the idea!!
I never know what you’re going to post about, that’s why I love coming here to visit! Have a great week!

I love your shoes! Soooo cute! I also have a shoe obsession. I just can’t resist a cute pair. Especially if they are on sale – lol. It was so fun to have a peek inside your closet!

I’m a flip-flop kind of gal. A sandal gal all the way. This time of year you won’t find me in any kind of shoe with toes and/or heels in them!

I’m not a big shoe person. I mean I like them but don’t collect them. I don’t have tons of shoes. We have a shoe rack along one side of our walk-in closet, so that’s where many of my shoes are. Flip-flops, like you, are stored all together.

In recent years, I’ve really realized I didn’t need HALF the clothes/shoes/accessories I had. I still have way more than I need (I am so blessed!), but don’t buy like I used to. I guess as I get older, my priorities are changing.

I belong to a shoe club (http://www.shoeclub.us/) which pretty much reflects my love of shoes.

My workhorse shoes– Black boots –I had a pair of flat Bandalinos that I wore into the ground –even had them resoled. Great with pants, jeans, and skirts. I finally found a replacement pair –dockers brand no less at Kohls. For $40 I can’t beat the style and value.

I love ballet flats– I am pretty tall and don’t really need or want to wear heels so I have a few flats that I adore. My Cythina Rowely brown leather ones get lots of compliments as well as a pair of Franco Sarto deep pink/purple sued ones. I wear those a lot with jeans or slacks. Nice pop of color!

Rhoda – I LOVE SHOES! If you want to get my hubby started complaining, just mention a shoe sale in front of him. One very hot summer day, not long after we married, he decided to do me a favor and put racks in my closet for my shoes. When I came home from work he asked me in a very stern manner, “Are you aware you have over 100 pairs of shoes??” (And he didn’t even know about the two storage tubs of shoes in the basement! HA!) For my birthday he gave me a card that says this: “Happy Birthday, Honey! No one else could fill your shoes. The black ones. Not the black flat ones or the black standals or the black heels. The black ones that kinda look like the other pair of black ones that you had before the last pair of black ones.” I haven’t purchased any lately; I’m saving money and wearing what I have. Periodically I go through and donate shoes I haven’t worn in a long time, and when my favorites get too worn, I throw them out. I’m 5’10” and I really love high heels.

Dena, you made me laugh out loud with your comment! That’s great, you are a TRUE shoe-aholic for sure. Your hubby sounds like a good sport. And mine has also noticed that I have a LOT of shoes too, although not even close to 100. That is hilarious! I think you win the shoe prize so far in the comments.

I don’t have a big shoe hangup but I have added new shoes to my work wardrobe over the past few years because I had one pair of flats and one pair of heels and kept wearing the same shoes over and over. Now I have about 15 pairs of shoes and I do try to mix it up a bit more. My favorite is a pair of RED PATENT flats. When I bought them I would wear them for about 6 months because they were so bright! I finally broke down and wore them and just fell in love with my feet!

I have the cutest pair of black/white/red houndstooth and patent leather heels from Naturalizer that I wish I could wear every single day. Otherwise, I’m a flip flopper too. I’ve had a really hard time putting the finishing touches –shoes–together with my outfits since I’ve started wearing only skirts. Shoes can make or break the entire day, that’s for sure!

Oh and my genuine cowboy boots that I saved and saved and saved for in 10th grade. $117! 18 years ago. Guess those have been my best investement, because I’m still wearing them!

I bought a pair of really comfortable sandals a couple of years ago and for some reason I can’t find them! I’m so sad. They were the best.

I live in flip-flops during the summer, but after being diagnosed with plantar faciitis, I thought I was doomed to ugly boat-looking sandals with orthotic inserts. ugh.
When I discovered my beautiful brown Chaco leather flips two summers ago, I swear I heard bells. They were pretty pricey, especially for a flip-flop, but what a great investment! They still look great and better yet, feel great! I’ve just ordered two more pairs.

I love flip flops too. And flat shoes. If I am wearing high shoes I prefer them to be wedges, just because they last longer and wont hurt
