Thrifty Fashion: What I Wore Wednesday

I really do wear those clothes I find thrifting. Nothing thrills me more than finding something that fits and looks good for a couple of dollars.

Take this black/cream dress for instance. I paid $2 for it at the Bridgemill sale a few weeks ago.

I pulled it on over my clothes to see how it might fit and I could tell that it would work out just fine.  I had in mind to wear it over black leggings and wear flip-flops with it.  Breezy and casual is the look I was going for.

Turns out to be one of my fave outfits.  It’s cool and cute at the same time.  I wasn’t at all sure I wanted to wear leggings again. Usually when you’ve been through one fad fashion, it might be a good idea to skip it the 2nd time around, but I’ve seen other women my age pull it off, so I thought I can do that too!  I do like it and will wear it again.  It’s really comfy too.

With my yardsale mother of pearl necklace and earrings that I picked up for about $2 or $3 (at 2 different sales), this is one cheap….umm….inexpensive outfit.  And I love frugal!

Check out these black and silver flip-flops which have turned out to be some of my faves this year.  I got them at the beach in Destin at Beall’s Outlet.  Have you ever been there?  My sister and Susan love that store and so when I was down there camping with them, I had to check it out too.  Got these for about $8 on sale, since we hit it on sale day.  See those rosettes on the top?  Those are black zippers rolled up in a flower!  Isn’t that cool?  I thought that was a fabulous idea for a flip-flop look.  You could totally copycat that in any color.

So, that’s my frugal outfit of the day.  Are you shopping thrift these days?  I do, every chance I get.  In fact, I found the cutest little consignment shop in Kennesaw that my friend, Judy, took me too.  I’ll have to show you what I found there.  Great name brands too!

I’m joining the What I Wore Wednesday party at The Pleated Poppy.

Rhoda…..I just love your blog !! I, too am a decorating fanatic and love to do things to make my home more inviting. You are my favorite blogger and when I get my laptop …..I go to your site first to see what else you have found at yard sales…..etc. Thank you for sharing your idea and talent with us. God Bless you in your new journey in life. I know it wasn’t what you had planned early on…..but you will be just fine. I found this out when I was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of Liver Cancer 4 yrs ago. Nothing can be done for me except a Liver Transplant ….but for now, I am okay. My liver function is fine and the tumors are indolent (stable) and not doing much but just sitting there. This is not what I had planned for my life….who does plan for cancer ?? But, it is a journey that I know I don’t have to walk alone in. For God has been with me all the while….so either way….I’m going to be just fine. Just like you ~

We have a great consignment store here in Decatur called Better Than Before. I get lots of cute things there for a very reasonable price. I also love to shop at Ross. Yesterday I got a cute floor length sleeveless dress in turquoise for 12$ Then I got the Tuesday Club discount(over 55!). I love it and will wear it here at home in the evenings as my comfy clothes. Why not be comfy and cute? I am always looking for a bargain!

What a great dress! It looks very good on you. You could even do the dress without the leggings and with different shoes and do a dressier look. Very versatile! Great find at a great price!

Adorable dress and what a find! Our little town doesn’t have much by the way of thrifting/consignment but I try to find deals when I can. Love how you paired it with the leggings.

You look gorgeous Rhoda and I felt the same way when I put leggings back on for the first time since 7th grade! LOL! But they really are comfortable and as long as what I wear over them gives me full “coverage” in certain areas…ahem…then I really enjoy them! 🙂

    Hi Rhoda-

You look fabulous and to be comfy at the same time -priceless. I am a leggings girl and will be sad when they are no longer in fashion.

    My best- Diane
