What little Projects are you putting off?

Thank you all SO much for coming by and linking up to my Top Projects party.  Ya’ll really showed it off and I am so impressed by all we collectively accomplished this year.  Bravo to  all of you.  I wish I could take the time to highlight so many of your projects, but just know that I think you are all awesome.   It will take me days just to go through all the links.

Now, for that project procrastination thing….

Oh, I’ve got a bunch of them. So, let’s spur each other on to getting some of those mundane tasks done.  You know the ones.  Like touching up the grout or caulk on all that white bathroom tile.  Or putting the last layer of caulk around the seam in the granite and backsplash in the kitchen.  Yep, guilty!

Those little things are the ones that get put off for months for me, since whenever they come to mind, I toss that thought aside til another day. But, now that Christmas is over, it’s time to tackle a few of them.

Like this one.  My closet.  No excuse for this pig-sty of a closet, it’s all mine and I have ignored it for months.  Tell me I’m not alone, please?!  I wish I was better at keeping this space cleaned up, but it seems to stay out of control.  It’s tall and skinny. With shelves all the way up the walls.  I can get a lot in here, the problem is, those clothes need to be cleaned out. I don’t wear half of them.  Time to get busy. And uggghhh at the junk drawers.  You know that pretty dining room I have?  It’s hiding a big secret.  The drawers in my sideboard are trashed! I have even cleaned out these junk drawers.  I throw a few things away and just rearrange my junk.  Time to take action!

So, January will be devoted to decluttering my spaces.

I invite you to join me, won’t you? 🙂  Tell me about your decluttering projects and make me feel better.

Happy New Year, my friends!  Here’s to 2011!

If you haven’t signed up for the MasterCard MarketPlace $100 giveaway yet, hop on over and do so.  It ends today!

Rhoda, you are certainly not alone in your need to declutter. I’ve got six bags for Goodwill waiting by the door and I’m sure that’s just the beginning! Good luck on your clean-up projects. Think how great it will be when you have everything neat and organized!

Hi Rhoda – I’m new to your site! Love it! We clean out closets the week before Christmas and get rid of the clothes we haven’t worn or can’t wear. My husband takes a carload to Goodwill each year! I have kitchen desk clutter to work on and the laundry room where everything goes to hide!

I have junk drawers, and actually two rooms of stuff that I MUST get to … my main problem is that books are overtaking my house … AGAIN … so it’s time to go through them and weed them out and take them to the library for their big annual book sale … my house will sigh in relief when I’ve finished that job! AGAIN!

My closet looks exactly like yours! I’m hoping this year to clean it up and keep it that way. My basement is covered with “stuff” from every season and needs a major overhaul. But my biggest project may be my attempt at pulling up the rug in my studio and painting the floor….I’ve never tried anything like this before but how bad can it be, right:)

I just spent all of yesterday cleaning and redoing my linen closet. Threw away a huge rubbish bag full of unused/old/cruddy items and a huge space bag to store of rarely used things.

I feel like I just lost 5 lbs.!

    On to the junk drawers…

oh my goodness – you are certainly not the only one! i have the same problem with junk drawers. it’s just all the odds and ends that don’t seem to have another logical home. but you’re right – time to take action! one of my hopes for 2011 is to be more organized.

The best part about the ‘bad’ part is now it is out there – out of the closet so to speak, I couldn’t resist (: It’s the best way to ensure these projects will get done! Phew do I have a bunch of those kind of spaces as well…Not sure I am ready to put them out there; you have inspired me to perhaps quietly chip away at them. (I am new to your site and I love the photos with your ‘new’ SLR. 2011 may be the year for me!)

I was FORCED to clean out my walk in closet and dresser drawers when our bedroom flooded last summer in order to put down new carpet. Mine made yours look good! I had put it off forever but I must admit, I felt much better after it was done. I got rid of tons of clothes, shoes and purses and now I have next to nothing left….time for some new clothes…but I’ve vowed to never let that happen again (yeah right!).

Hope to see you in the new year!

    Rhoda,
When did you sneak in my house to take a picture of my closet?

Seriously, I have more than one closet and several drawers that are in complete disarray!

    Happy New Year,

Now I don’t feel alone anymore in having junk drawers. I only know that I keep staying I will clean them out but since procrastination is my middle name it never gets done.

You’re so brave posting pics. I think a lot of us are in the same boat.

Our foyer closet is absolutely frightening right now. The entire floor is littered with shoes. We literally step on shoes as we reach for our coats. It was horrifying as holiday guests tried to hang their coats. I’d actually launch myself from the next room and sort of frantically scream, “No, let me hang up your coat.” That closet is on the must tackle list for the new year.

    Hello Rhoda,

Your closet looks tame compared to mine. Last year I used a label maker to designate hanging areas (dresses, shortsleeved tops, sweaters, pants, etc.) and for about a month my closet looked beautiful. Ha Didn’t last long…… I, too, have a ton of stuff I no longer wear to clear out…… HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have a master bath renovation that has stalled and a guest bedroom that I couldn’t get a guest into if I tried! My Christmas company had to sleep on the couches! I guess I know what I’ll be working on next year!

Oh I have the same problems! Clutter behind the closets doors and drawers. I have been tackling a little bit each day since Christmas. My goal is to declutter something every day.

My closet looked JUST like yours! I got in there the day after Christmas and DEEP CLEANED it….ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that felt so good. Now to keep it that way.

    You are not alone!!!!

No Rhoda you are not alone. This last summer I was forced to leave the workforce to take care of ill family members. I suddenly had time to notice that my house was a “mess”. I also watched a hoarding show on television and made up my mind to get busy and declutter before that happened to me :). We had three separate thrift sales and donated the leftovers from each sale to charity. I saved items because I thought my children would want them someday. Needless to say, they did not. I am happy to say that my house is now the most organized it has been in 32 years. I even have empty shelf spaces and drawers! It’s such an anxiety reliever.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of the pleasure you have given all of your readers. I enjoy reading/viewing your hard work and I hope you continue to let us view your projects in 2011. Happy New Year!

I have a tall and skinny closet like yours! I’m with you on decluttering. I just need to go through each closet and drawer in my house. Maybe one a day so I don’t get overwhelmed. 🙂
