Thank you all SO much for coming by and linking up to my Top Projects party. Ya’ll really showed it off and I am so impressed by all we collectively accomplished this year. Bravo to all of you. I wish I could take the time to highlight so many of your projects, but just know that I think you are all awesome. It will take me days just to go through all the links.
Now, for that project procrastination thing….
Oh, I’ve got a bunch of them. So, let’s spur each other on to getting some of those mundane tasks done. You know the ones. Like touching up the grout or caulk on all that white bathroom tile. Or putting the last layer of caulk around the seam in the granite and backsplash in the kitchen. Yep, guilty!
Those little things are the ones that get put off for months for me, since whenever they come to mind, I toss that thought aside til another day. But, now that Christmas is over, it’s time to tackle a few of them.
Like this one. My closet. No excuse for this pig-sty of a closet, it’s all mine and I have ignored it for months. Tell me I’m not alone, please?! I wish I was better at keeping this space cleaned up, but it seems to stay out of control. It’s tall and skinny. With shelves all the way up the walls. I can get a lot in here, the problem is, those clothes need to be cleaned out. I don’t wear half of them. Time to get busy. And uggghhh at the junk drawers. You know that pretty dining room I have? It’s hiding a big secret. The drawers in my sideboard are trashed! I have even cleaned out these junk drawers. I throw a few things away and just rearrange my junk. Time to take action!
So, January will be devoted to decluttering my spaces.
I invite you to join me, won’t you? 🙂 Tell me about your decluttering projects and make me feel better.
Happy New Year, my friends! Here’s to 2011!
If you haven’t signed up for the MasterCard MarketPlace $100 giveaway yet, hop on over and do so. It ends today!

Hi Rhoda, I am right there with you and this year is my year to purge big time. My walk-in closet has become a throw-in closet. You know you stand at the door and just throw it in!!! Junk drawer or should I say drawers. Oh my!! The garage is my biggest problem area, my poor car is no longer a member of the garage!! I can go on and on!!! So you see dear friend I am right along side of you. In fact I will be doing a post about my problem soon!! Yikes, do I dare go there? Kathysue

I do not have much storage space in my condo. I would love to declutter in the guest room in the office in the closets etc.

Looks just like my closet! Mine is my go-to place to put everything when I have to quickly get it out of site! Please keep us updated on what you do with it so I can be inspired to tackle mine! I think mine is about the same size and layout too. I do plan to bag up some old clothes in the next few weeks for the clothing drive at my kids school so i guess that is a start! Best wishes for the new year!

My closet is on my list as well Rhoda. I hope to get some nice wicker baskets and organize it so that it is pretty! Also plan to paint my bedroom. I am leaning toward Portobello by Sherwin Williams. I hope to find a new comforter set so I will wait until I find one for the final decision on the paint color. Hope you have a wonderful New Year and I look forward to seeing the projects you post for 2011!

Rhoda, 2011 will be the year for healing and de-cluttering. I cannot wait to get started, but I am going to start small with a couple of kitchen projects first, just in order to get that rush from accomplishing something!
Happy New Year!

I agree with most of the comments, 2011 is going to be about de-cluttering and simplifying our living!
For your closet, I noticed you have quite a bit of scarves. I found a hanger that is a large piece of plastic with a hook on the top and holes on the plastic. I picked it up at a goodwill, but it’s for holding scarves and has really helped my closet out.
Now for my project, I will start out by saying HELP!!!!
It’s a mess and it’s probably the most used room in our house, the laundry room! Here’s a link to my problem area…would LOVE SOME SUGGESTIONS!

Oh Rhoda, I am with you on this one! I took an SUV full of stuff to Goodwill yesterday (my hub is a CPA to0 so I had to get that Dec 31 deduction in!) and I’ll be taking more as I continue to purge. As I get older, I am trying so hard to keep our home from becoming a dated looking junky mess and it’s taking some effort I tell you! After spending the last year concentrating on a summer cottage I am now refocusing on our home.

I am joining you! spur me on! Declutter is my goal for January as well. I am tired of all the stuff in my house. I have decided that Craig’s list is going to be my friend in January for the big stuff and then a major garage sale for the other stuff. What’s left will go to Vapor or the dump. It is going away in 2011!!
Debra says
oh, p.s……I have committed to one area a day….either big or small…so if I have time to conquer a big area for that day, I will. If time is not available, then maybe a small drawer in the kitchen or bathroom. But something MUST be declutter every day in January. THAT is the goal. ONWARD through the clutter:)!

Great minds think alike! 🙂 I have several projects (including my closet–which is pretty bad) that I’ve been holding off on. Some of them I haven’t worked on because I’m afraid I’ll mess them up. So I told myself to be more fearless this coming year!!
I really really enjoyed your party. I can HONESTLY say that it was the only party I have linked to lately (and I don’t link to many) that participants actually took the time to return visits and leave nice comments. Something about you and your blog…must be that Southern Hospitality, huh? 😉
Happy New Year, Rhoda! Wish I could come and meet you at Blissdom, but maybe I can save up for next year….

I am sure most people are in that boat but I think a lot of us don’t have the nerve to show anybody! You have helped get me in gear to tackle my closest.

Yes. I will be joining you! My sideboard also holds dirty secrets. And so do many other drawers in my house. My closet will be donating to the local thrift store as well. Time to clean house!!
Becky@OrganizingMadeFun says
Yes, Rhoda…I like that you KNOW you need to clear out those drawers and closet! It’s so nice to have it in shape and clean. I love having my closet organized!

You’re not alone dear Rhoda………. 🙂
Happy New Year to you and Peter………I sent you an e-card for Christmas hope you got it…..
All the best,
Kathy 🙂

How many projects? Too many to name. I’m starting to believe I might have some form of ADHD coupled with OCD shadowed over by AR (Anal Retentiveness). I look around and realize that maybe, just MAYBE I have more issues than I care to admit! I did great job of getting my art studio cleaned up AND organized this year (and, it’s still organized, just not as clean) and I’d like to clean out my closet as well (85% of the clothes in there are now useless or too small now that I work from home). I hope everyone finds at least ONE project they can focus on and really do a great job getting it done. So what the rest of the house looks like a typhoon blew through it. You will have at least one place in the house you could show off. Just keep the blindfold at the door when guests arrive and shuffle them to the only clean spot in the house. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Oh my dear friend, you are so NOT alone. I am joining you on your decluttering project in January — I have an entire third floor ( five rooms) full of stuff I need to get out of here. That does not include the out buildings. Now if that doesn’t make you feel better about your closet and junk drawer, I don’t know what will.
Your Friend,
Deborah

Yes, closets are on the mind! I have an upcoming post on this very subject regarding my own closet. We were forced to move up a bedroom redesign which made me start thinking about cleaning out the closets. Organization is my goal this year!
Happy New Year.

Hallelujah! I’m so glad you’re human, Rhoda! It’s refreshing to see someone like your most wonderful talented self get a little messy! 🙂 Yep, my closet is a mess and I have some drawers that are horrible! Though I did dedicate the first part of the year to decluttering and now I’m all cluttered up again!
Happy New Year and here’s to another year in wonderful Blogland!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
