{Giveaway is Closed}
I’ve got another fun book up for giveaway today that I think many of you will enjoy. Write the Right Words: Messages from the Heart for Every Occasion, by Sandra Lamb covers all the occasions in our lives that we need to share the written word.
Writing notes and letters has really gone by the wayside these days, in our electronic society. When is the last time you sat down and wrote someone a letter…in your own handwriting?! I can’t remember the last time. It really is a shame that we have let so many of the social graces fall away, when relationships are so important to us and writing a heartfelt message is part of that.
My longtime friend, Vicki, who lives in Atlanta is one of the people I so admire in this respect. She has always, always been an encourager of the written word and I have countless cards from her over the many years that we’ve been friends (since high school). For all occasions, I can count on a card from Vicki with a hand-written note inside. I’m afraid I fall far short of writing heartfelt messages and notes to my friends and loved ones. I do send cards, with a hastily scrawled note inside, but it’s not always well-thought out.
From the book: A firm believer that every greeting card needs a personal, handwritten message from you to make it complete, Write the Right Words is a guide to help you create a warm, personal message that connects you to the person you’re addressing. Filled with examples that you can adapt for every occasion, Write the Right Words will help you get through any greeting-card writers’ block. Flair, fun, and a personal voice will make every card you send a memorable one.
This book covers it all:
- Connecting Messages
- Happy Day Messages
- Holiday Messages
- Social Grace Messages
- Care and Concern Messages
- Creating a new relationship Messages
And at the back of the book is a Dates to Remember section, from January through December, where you can add all your own personalized notes to keep yourself organized in sending cards to your friends and family.
I’ve got one copy up for a giveaway! All you need to do is leave a comment here on this post for the chance to win your own copy (retail value $23)! I know I will definitely enjoy having this book on my shelf and I’m going to utilize it from now on.
Answer this question: Do you still send greeting cards? How good are you at personalizing your greeting cards? Do you always write from the heart or scrawl out a quick message like I usually do?
Let’s get better about sending out a special card, filled with our heart-felt thoughts!

Usually, If I send a card it’s one I made because I think it’s fun to do. When I write in them, I try to fill up most of it with poignant “stuff.” It just seems nicer that way!

I’d like to read this book! I do send greeting cards but I never know what to write, so I just write something quick and easy.

It’s funny, but I just happened to write TWO letters by hand yesterday! I do send greeting cards for birthdays, Christmas, and often “just because”! Most of the time, I do try to take the time to personalize it as best I can, definitely writing from the heart. If it isn’t coming from my heart, then I’d never bother in the first place. I would never want my cards and/or letters to look so thoughtless or careless… I think this book looks very interesting, and I’d love to be counted in for the giveaway! Thanks! ~tina

I do still send greeting cards to family and close friends on special occassions. My grandmother still does not have a computer, so she is always sending sweet handwritten notes. I know that I will always cherish them, and I hope to continue this tradition within our family. I would love to have this book to help with the sometimes hard to write sympathy cards. Thanks so much for a chance to win!

Pick me – pick me.
I LOVE to still write cards, notes and letters and people seem to appreciate them a great deal more than in the past.
I really enjoy personalizing and will wait until I have time to do it right – instead of just scribbling any ol’ thing=) I’m so excited to learn of this book – and I’d love to win it!
thanks for the headsup!

I’ve always wanted to be that person who sends greeting cards, even before email became the new way of communication, but I just havent committed to it; one big reason being that I’m not the greatest writer. I could really use this book. 😉

I love sending cards for any occasion…especially for “no” occasion. 🙂 I also volunteer with Chemo Angels and Soldier’s Angels. Having something new and creative to add to my cards and letters would be very welcome.
Thanks for the opportunity to win!

I would love to own that book because I struggle for words at times, especially on sympathy cards. I try to purchase cards that are blank inside because I feel those come from the heart much more than the pre-worded ones. I usually buy sets of cards at Home Goods…some of them are so cute I frame them. I think I start too many sentences with the word I.

Great giveaway! I would love this! I feel like it’s important to send notes/cards but don’t always know what to say.

I would love to add this book to my bookcase and would utilize it to send more cards. I used to send cards all the time, but now with Facebook and E-cards I don’t do it like I used to. I have always tried to write a special message inside and try to add a cute little stamp, like the ones you can get at Hobby Lobby (flowers are my favorite). I love cards so much that I have saved every birthday card I have ever received since I was a little girl..and I am now 42 (my mom still has all the cards she received after I was born too). I couldn’t encourage people enough to do this. It is so special to go through these from time to time and read the messages from dear ones who have passed on…I am so thankful I have them….I simply rubber band them by the year and they all are in a wooden hope chest that my Great Aunt gave to me. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity…I pray I win. Genah

I am horrible at sending greeting cards, I usually buy them with great intention of mailing them out… write out a heartfelt message and then they sit waiting to be mailed….

I have always loved sending cards for all reasons and seasons…so much so that I even make my own as a secondary gift to whatever message I wish to convey. I very often haunt my Dictionary of Thoughts for appropriate words. I would love to add this book to my repertoire of written words to others. Thank you, Rhoda!

I hate purchasing a lovely card to send to a friend or loved one and then not knowing exactly what to write. It seems so trite to just add my signature. I have a friend who always seems to know just what to write and that makes the cards she sends so special.
Jane H. says
I love sending greeting cards, handwritten notes and letters. I always try to write a personal note in a card because I know how much it means to me when I’m on the receiving end. Sometimes it’s not easy to know what to write. A book like this should be full of ideas to get the creative juices flowing!
Gina Blank says
I always send greeting cards but must admit not too many handwritten letters. This book sounds great, especially when you don’t quite know what to say.

Beautiful post and I believe her book is essential in this day and age. I too write to help others find the right words although my focus is for those times of hardship that challenge us all. I devote my efforts to an area I call, Life Healing Arts. I brought a book to the market late last year called, What Can I Say When Words Escape Me, being present in times of sorrow. It blends nature and spirituality with serene photography to tug at your heart and offer a therapeutic hug! Today I’m uploading my first 3 sympathy cards to my website in a line I call, Light of Love for Scruples. Take a look and keep up the great posts! Yes, I still send cards and my message is always straight from the heart. Sincerely, Kathryn

Oh, how I would love to win this. I never know quite what to say, but I love to send personal handwritten notes to people as well as receive them. This is almost becoming a thing of the past, but is still one of the nicest ways to let someone know you really care.
