After checking out several places for kitchen cabinets, I have a winner, but you already know that.
IKEA it is! I’ve decided on the Adel door style, simple Shaker style in off-white. Seeing them in so many places lately has really confirmed that I’m making a great choice, especially after finding them in the Southern Living Idea House in Senoia recently. They are beautiful and they are affordable!
Affordable is good.
Here’s the Southern Living house kitchen featuring MY cabinets. You can see all the pics I took of the house at the link above.

I thought I’d share some of my favorite kitchen inspiration pics that I found over on Pinterest. The verdict is in. I definitely am in love with white cabinets. Almost every kitchen I saved is white, so that tells me where my inspiration lies. The best way to figure out what you love is to keep saving pics. It will be obvious in no time.
OH, and Shaker style white cabinets is what keeps jumping out at me too. I adore their classic design style.
These simple Shakers really have my attention, so that is what I’m going for.
Look at this beautiful white kitchen, with soaring ceilings and dark floors. Oh, be still my heart. I don’t have soaring ceilings, but I have some pretty awesome dark floors.
Now, this one has blue gray on the bottom and it is particularly pretty too. Love the open shelves. I have plans for 2 large open shelves in my kitchen. I love open shelves, but don’t think I want to commit to a whole wall of them. They are beautiful though!
In fact, here are my shelves. I bought them almost 2 years ago, not long before I moved from Birmingham and they are stored away waiting for me. I’m going to stain them dark and hang them up on my white subway tiled walls. Aren’t they yummy? They came from that fantastic salvage shop in Cullman, AL, Southern Accents. Wish I was closer, I’d hit that place again.
Another beautiful Shaker style cabinet pic. Those drapes are snazzy too.
White Shaker, dark floors, marble countertop and backsplash. This is one gorgeous look! I probably won’t do a farmhouse sink, nor marble, but I hope to get something similar. Fairly positive I’ll go with white subway tiles on my backsplash.
Another one for visuals.
This kitchen above is just breath taking to me. It is gorgeous, yet completely doable. I love how that window is trimmed out. Sure love that subway tile!
This real life kitchen renovation really got me excited. They did a fabulous job on updating their kitchen and did the work themselves. Very inspiring! GO over and check out the before and afters on this one, you won’t believe the difference. Goes to show what some DIY magic can do!
One more that I just love, I’ll have a mix of glass fronts and Shaker doors. This is a good visual for a dark sink, which I happen to love.
The kitchen above is just beautiful, love the Shaker cabinets, subway tile with gray grout and the dark sink. I’m pretty sure I’m going with a dark sink again this time either in black or dark brown.
And this one has wood shelves similar to what I’m doing against a wall of white subway tile. Love, love it! I sure am glad classic white subway tile is affordable. My shelves are 4 feet long.

Here’s another fabulous IKEA kitchen that I’ve been following over at House Tweaking. They are doing a great job with their house renovation, you can click that link to see it all.
I’m planning to get granite again for my kitchen countertops, so hoping to fit that in the budget. I will probably get a similar color to my former kitchen, Napoli, which goes well with white cabinets. Still have to narrow down those choices too.
I still need to score a stainless steel stove, so will be looking for a deal on that too.
Here’s a little design board that I put together with the choices that I most likely will stick with:
- Adel cabinets from Ikea (done deal)
- White subway tile with gray grout
- Oil rubbed bronze knobs and cup pulls for the drawers
- Lightish granite
- Cafe Brown or Charcoal Silgranite sink
- Moen Annabelle pulldown faucet in oil rubbed bronze
- Addie Ballard Designs pendant in green
- Loving the gray/cream chevron indoor/outdoor rug from Ballard’s with this Adel kitchen that Ikea featured, might have to get this runner in my kitchen too.
I’m so excited to get my little kitchen up and running. It’s fun to plan one from scratch, but a little scary too! I planned a kitchen from scratch back in 1985 and hated my cabinet choice 10 years later. I hope that doesn’t happen this time around.
How about you? What color cabinets are your favorite? Are you a white lover like me or does dark float your boat?
Lovely choices. I don’t think you can go wrong with your cabinet choice. The simplicity of the design makes it gorgeous. I have white subway tile in my home and I love it. Hope you love yours, too! You have such a way with everything design related, I know your kitchen will be as lovely as the rest of your home.

I think we’ve pinned LOTS of the same kitchen photos! I love the direction you’re headed — can’t wait to watch it evolve. 🙂
I can feel your excitement clear over in Alabama!! I laughed at your comment re: Southern Accents in Cullman…wishing it were closer. We drive to Atlanta for IKEA and WISH it were closer. Two thoughts…one reader suggested beadboard for backsplash and I noticed your inspiration photos have chrome/nickel hardware. I recently read that chrome is back (and I agree!) Having had authentic painted beadboard backsplash in a previous home, I highly recommend it. Also, I’ve seen a backsplash planked on horizontal and it looked great. Love seeing all this coming together for you.
Boy are we on the same page! While my cabinets are custom they are the wonderfully simple shaker style in a shiny white finish with a white subway tile backsplash and a beautiful granite that you can see in my latest post. In place of open shelving I am using rustic salvaged shelves similar to yours in an adjoining wine bar area. I think these looks are popular because they are so classic yet updated at the same time. What are you using for hardware?
Right now I have very light cream cabinets with dark oiled pulls & knobs, and loved it. However, living on a horse farm, having 3 dogs living in the house with us, and a contractor husband; let’s just say I’m actually longing for dark cabinets rather a lot.
I would love to pretty much gut the kitchen, add dark cabinets, tiger wood floors, quartz tops, and a farmhouse apron front sink, and put in a built-in dishwasher & pass the portable on to my daughter finally. Ah well, one day will come eventually.
I’m lusting after some white Ikea cabinets myself. I have had those U.G.L.Y two-tone oak and white laminate cabinets in my kitchen for 20 years now, and they have greatly overstayed their welcome. I sooo want to replace them, but the budget says no. So just yesterday I started a trial run on priming/painting the bath cabinet. It’s matches the kitchen cabinets; isn’t that nice? 🙂 I’m wallpapering the doors and the end panel with beadboard paper, then painting everything white. We’ll see how it goes – I may do the whole kitchen if it works out in the bathroom.
Hi Rhoda! I too have Ikea kitchen cabinets with Stat door style both glass and solid. I also choose a butcher block counter top from Ikea over granite or other solid surface, as it seemed more practical for our family, and I love it. It has been 6 years and I love the patena the butcher block has taken on. Hope to soon change the flooring to one similar to yours soon! Loving watching your home come together. Truly inspirational!
Great Choice Rhoda! We updated our kitchen two years ago with exactly the same cabinets and we absolutely love it. People always have positive comments when they see our kitchen. We literally JUST finished having an Ikea kitchen installed in our place here in CT. We went with the Adel door style too, but used Medium Brown. The cabinets were very easy to assemble and look beautiful. We did have someone install everything for us as we needed some additional tweaking done to our kitchen and felt it was a bit beyond what we could tackle. I’m excited to see your finished kitchen and know you will be as happy as we are with the Ikea cabinets!
Love the pics!! Am also looking to install in CT and wondered if you could recommend any installers? Thanks!

These are beautiful, inspirational kitchen ideas. I love the white cabinets and white subway tile as well. I’m in the process of figuring out my kitchen. I will probably paint my cabinets while, install white subway tile and get a neutral/brown color granite counter tops. I loved all of your pics, so it shows me that I’m going in the right direction!
love your pics this is the kitchen of my dreams, all have something I want in my home we are getting ready to build.
