After checking out several places for kitchen cabinets, I have a winner, but you already know that.
IKEA it is! I’ve decided on the Adel door style, simple Shaker style in off-white. Seeing them in so many places lately has really confirmed that I’m making a great choice, especially after finding them in the Southern Living Idea House in Senoia recently. They are beautiful and they are affordable!
Affordable is good.
Here’s the Southern Living house kitchen featuring MY cabinets. You can see all the pics I took of the house at the link above.

I thought I’d share some of my favorite kitchen inspiration pics that I found over on Pinterest. The verdict is in. I definitely am in love with white cabinets. Almost every kitchen I saved is white, so that tells me where my inspiration lies. The best way to figure out what you love is to keep saving pics. It will be obvious in no time.
OH, and Shaker style white cabinets is what keeps jumping out at me too. I adore their classic design style.

These simple Shakers really have my attention, so that is what I’m going for.

Look at this beautiful white kitchen, with soaring ceilings and dark floors. Oh, be still my heart. I don’t have soaring ceilings, but I have some pretty awesome dark floors.

Now, this one has blue gray on the bottom and it is particularly pretty too. Love the open shelves. I have plans for 2 large open shelves in my kitchen. I love open shelves, but don’t think I want to commit to a whole wall of them. They are beautiful though!
In fact, here are my shelves. I bought them almost 2 years ago, not long before I moved from Birmingham and they are stored away waiting for me. I’m going to stain them dark and hang them up on my white subway tiled walls. Aren’t they yummy? They came from that fantastic salvage shop in Cullman, AL, Southern Accents. Wish I was closer, I’d hit that place again.

Another beautiful Shaker style cabinet pic. Those drapes are snazzy too.
White Shaker, dark floors, marble countertop and backsplash. This is one gorgeous look! I probably won’t do a farmhouse sink, nor marble, but I hope to get something similar. Fairly positive I’ll go with white subway tiles on my backsplash.
Another one for visuals.
This kitchen above is just breath taking to me. It is gorgeous, yet completely doable. I love how that window is trimmed out. Sure love that subway tile!
This real life kitchen renovation really got me excited. They did a fabulous job on updating their kitchen and did the work themselves. Very inspiring! GO over and check out the before and afters on this one, you won’t believe the difference. Goes to show what some DIY magic can do!
One more that I just love, I’ll have a mix of glass fronts and Shaker doors. This is a good visual for a dark sink, which I happen to love.

The kitchen above is just beautiful, love the Shaker cabinets, subway tile with gray grout and the dark sink. I’m pretty sure I’m going with a dark sink again this time either in black or dark brown.
And this one has wood shelves similar to what I’m doing against a wall of white subway tile. Love, love it! I sure am glad classic white subway tile is affordable. My shelves are 4 feet long.

Here’s another fabulous IKEA kitchen that I’ve been following over at House Tweaking. They are doing a great job with their house renovation, you can click that link to see it all.
I’m planning to get granite again for my kitchen countertops, so hoping to fit that in the budget. I will probably get a similar color to my former kitchen, Napoli, which goes well with white cabinets. Still have to narrow down those choices too.
I still need to score a stainless steel stove, so will be looking for a deal on that too.
Here’s a little design board that I put together with the choices that I most likely will stick with:
- Adel cabinets from Ikea (done deal)
- White subway tile with gray grout
- Oil rubbed bronze knobs and cup pulls for the drawers
- Lightish granite
- Cafe Brown or Charcoal Silgranite sink
- Moen Annabelle pulldown faucet in oil rubbed bronze
- Addie Ballard Designs pendant in green
- Loving the gray/cream chevron indoor/outdoor rug from Ballard’s with this Adel kitchen that Ikea featured, might have to get this runner in my kitchen too.
I’m so excited to get my little kitchen up and running. It’s fun to plan one from scratch, but a little scary too! I planned a kitchen from scratch back in 1985 and hated my cabinet choice 10 years later. I hope that doesn’t happen this time around.
How about you? What color cabinets are your favorite? Are you a white lover like me or does dark float your boat?

Recently, we had our kitchen cabinets painted white, used white subway tiles with white grout for the backsplash, used bronze hardware, and installed giallo ornamental granite countertops. You had a wood applique on one of your cabinets in your old kitchen and was nice enough to provide me with info on how you applied and paint it so I was able to put one on my cabinet over my sink. I really love how open and light my small kitchen turned out and am looking forward to reading about yours. Thanks for the inspiration!

I think white cabinets are always in style! As far as the white suway tile, I recently did a ktchen reno….wanted cream colored subway tile, but my design consultant talked me into a diagonal travertine. SO wished I went with the subway tile!
Your choices are always right on! Can’t wait to see the finished job!

Rhoda,
I can’t believe how fast your remodel is coming along. Your kitchen sounds like it will be beautiful and classic. I don’t think you will regret your choices, as trends change you can always add to a classic design and it still looks timeless. I am so happy to see all of this come together for you, and of course I get to enjoy all the pretty afters without having to do any of the work!

I love all your choices – it is similar to mine we just finished (almost). We did the Lidingo white cabinets, the Pottery Barn knobs and pulls, pecan color tiles that look like hand scraped wood, black pearl granite countertops, and all that is left is the backsplash (will be marble subways). We live in an old house and it still fits in. IKEA (Atlanta) is about 5 hours from home so getting the cabinets was an adventure. We also used the IKEA farmhouse sinks – one of the double bowl and one of the single bowl. Hope all goes well.

After looking at your photos, I think you would like our kitchen. It has the dark floors, white cabinets, stainless appliances, marble countertops, and some tiles mixed along with beadboard backsplashes.

This is exactly the kitchen J and I discussed over the weekend. We are going to try to do something similar in our little dream cottage…just have to get the house sold and we can really move forward.
I saved the board for reference.
Wonderful post! Thanks!

Rhoda, I love all your design choices and your kitchen is going to be fabulous! I can’t wait to see those open shelves hanging on the wall. Someday, we’d like to tear off the back of our house and have a modern kitchen. It’s hard to do serious cooking in a “quaint” kitchen!

Gorgeous choices Rhoda (of course!). I tend to gravitate toward white also, although if a kitchen is quite large I might want to break it up with a different color for the island, etc. in an all white kitchen, texture becomes even more important, so countertop choices, accessories, etc. should have some ‘life’ to them. You are so lucky to be planning a kitchen! I’ve never been able to do that…maybe someday.

Love your inspiration images and design selections….I love white kitchens, too. Can’t wait to see your shelves and interesting brackets go up. Going to save this post along with my inspiration photos. My kitchen is set for reno in 2013. Wishing you a great week.

Whatever you decide on it will be beautiful, no doubt. Personally, I would be too scared to go pick the subway tile, only because it’s THE trendy look for now and I’d be tired of it in five years. I’d opt for beadboard. That way I could update the color to my liking every few years. Maybe a soft turquoise, green, or gray for now but I’d be ready to change it anytime I’d want in the future and it would cost very little to do it.

Love the cabinets you chose! I am always impressed with IKEA kitchens when in their showroom.

Rhoda, I hope you love your Ikea cabinets! We are just finishing up our kitchen reno using the Lidingo doors. I love the Adel door style too. I can’t wait to see your progress! Here’s ours if you’d like to see another Ikea kitchen: http://involvingcolor.com/involvinghome/tag/kitchen/
We just have to finish putting crown around the soffit, and then we’re DONE! Woo hoo!

Love your pics…I have a white kitchen with black and white cabinets…everything is white and my island is black. My pulls are chrome and I have cup pulls on all the drawers…love em! On the white cabinets I used black granite with a black back splash and on the black island I used a black and whit granite…would have preferred white marble, but I’m ok with what I have. My kitchen and den are combined, so I used a black entertainment center, I have a black leather recliner…hubby has to have that and I actually enjoy it too…it’s a pretty one, and an old couch that I reupholstered in black. I changed the pillows into a zebra print trimmed in black and had two different cushion covers made…one in black, which I use in the winter and then one in a lime green, which I put on as soon as we have a week of warm weather and my favorite. The chair that went with this couch was reupholstered in a MacKinzey Childs wanna be, it’s black, white and a variety of mixed black and white prints…love it! Then I threw in a red wicker chair that has a checkered cushion in it. I’ve accented with MC pieces that I have collected and some lime green pieces!
This is the only white room in my house, but I really do love it! I have SO enjoyed watching the transformation in your redo and wish I was closer, I’d come help you paint:). Can’t wait to see the finished diva!
Really enjoying your blog,
Beth

Thanks for linking over to House*Tweaking! We bought IKEA appliances for our kitchen reno (which will take place in October) and I haven’t read any reviews on the gas range. Hers look great and she’s happy with them so that makes me even more excited for the new kitchen! Can’t wai to see your finished transformation:)

Rhoda,
Your inspiration kitchens are gorgeous and so much my style of design. I am a big fan of subway tile. The Ikea cabinets you picked out will look wonderful. I have the original hardwood floors in our kitchen. we haven’t begun that ‘fun’ project {kitchen renovation} but I keep going back and forth on cabinet color. Decisions! Decisions!

I have white cabinets too!! Love them except for having to wipe them down all the time.lol..guess I am a messy cook. It is going to be like Christmas when you unpack all the things you have in storage. Cannot wait to see it!!

Oh…I am a white cabinet gal!!! You have picked a wonderful style that I’m sure you will be happy with for many years to come.

It is going to look gorgeous. I love white cabinets. We are getting ready to redo our kitchen but I am having to refrain from white cabinets because we are planning to leave our cream colored floor tile. Instead I am opting for dark charcoal cabinets and white subway tile backsplash. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out.

I am sure you kitchen will be great when you get it done.
As for me? Something along the lines of a modern country french. Something like this:

I am not a fan of Ikea at all, and it depends on the house/budget as to whether I like painted cabinets or stained. If the wood is pretty (like oak, hickory or walnut) and money is no object, then stain definitely. If I have to skimp on wood quality due to a budget, then I would do a buttermilk white lightly distressed with a different color bottom…probably black lightly distressed with a white marble countertop. I do like subway tile at first glance, but I am not sure I could live with it over the long haul. A white farmhouse sink is a must. I have a black sink right now, and I loathe it. I feel like it is never clean, and that makes it the bain of my existence.
