Banquet at THE Club

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending a fundraiser banquet at THE Club for our Holiday House missionaries, Elizabeth and Gary Wilkins of By Provision, and the keynote speaker was Coach Gene Stallings.

If you didn’t read about my first visit to THE Club, click over there and see it in the daytime.  Fascinating place, I know many of you here in Birmingham know all about.

The light was dim, but we took a few pics over by the window, in hopes that the lights of the city would show up.  Just a little sidenote, I went to my consignment store neighbor’s yardsale last week and picked up this adorable little cut-in INC top for $2.  Totally cute, huh?  And of course, I love black and white. This is a sweet friend of mine from church, Janice, and we sat with her and her hubby at their table and had a lot of fun.  Really enjoyed the evening.  Janice and I are both gym rats.  Well, I work out a lot and Janice has been an aerobics instructor for about 20 years and is about as big as a minute.  She’s originally a Southern California girl, but married right out of college to a Univ. of Alabama guy, so she has been here for a long time.  IMG_7025

The meal was really delicious and we all enjoyed it, including that chocolate pie for dessert.IMG_7031

Now, THIS is what we were waiting for and I almost stood up and cheered when the waiter brought out this plate of orange rolls. IMG_7029

And this is Elizabeth herself, half of the missionary couple who have devoted their lives to drilling wells in Africa for those who do not have clean water to drink, something we totally take for granted.  It was fascinating to see the video of how these people live, the girls carrying water on their heads in huge buckets.  I can’t even imagine how hard living like that must be.   We can do a small part to help them spread water and the gospel.

If you missed out on getting tickets for the Holiday House (click there to read all about the event) that I’ll be helping with on November 10th, please let me know if you’d still like tickets. I have plenty to sell and would love to see all of you here in Birmingham come out and support this worthy event.  ALL the proceeds will be going directly to By Provision.

One of my blog friends, Joanna, at This Southern Girl’s Nest, is having a Christmas ornament exchange party, so go on over and check it out if this is something you’d like to get in on.

How wonderful to look so fantastic in a dress that cost next to nothing. I expect it made you feel twice as good. My husband has a moustache which he occasionally threatens to shave off because of it going grey. I’m not sure I’d like that. It suits his look, but I was interested to know your hub thinks the same way about the shaving.
It’s easy to take our way of life for granted. Thank goodness there are people in the world who work hard to make a difference and to make us aware. Blessings on these people.
