We have the same sofa, you and I, in the same fabric! I just love that sofa, and I don’t care if it’s in, out, or whatever, I’ll probably reupholster it because I can’t imagine not having it! I adore tufting and would have it on everything if I could!!

I don’t know how I stumbled unto your site but you are a lady after my own heart. I, too, love searching for treasures at thrift stores, yard sales, etc. Like you said, a person doesn’t need to spend a fortune to have unique items that make a special home. I used to have a shop called “Dumpster Diva’s” but in more recent years my new name is “Deco Diva”. I really try to curb my “hunts” but as soon as I have someone that I am decorating for, I am in my glory! I also do my best to be a good steward of whatever God provides. Love your blog.

I’m snowed in here in Virginia Beach! Most snow in 20 years! So what better way to spend the day than to get some new ideas for my ever changing home decor. Randomly looking online and up comes your blog! Do you recognize your cousin’s name?? You are now making me second guess getting rid of some of the old pieces I thought I was tired of. I’m an at home mom with extra foster children, but while they are at school I love to do projects. Loved looking around your home. Nice to “hear from you!”

What a beautiful home you have! I live in South Ameirca and like you, I’m don´t follow any current trend and go where my heart takes me…and that is usually classic and very colorful style. Thank you for sharing your home with readers like me. Cheers from Quito, Ecuador. Rigo

I love your blog. You have beautiful taste and a lovely home. I love the color of paint that you have in your house. I am looking for a good neutral color to paint my hallway, bedroom and bathroom. I also love your curtains. Did you make those? I look forward to reading more of your post. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home and ideas.

So glad to have found your blog. I’m in the planning process if redoing some rooms. Some will end up minor changes while others will be major. One of my rooms is my red dining room. I’m glad to see your remarks about your losing the red. I have mixed feelings, as the red really does pop, but … Thanks for some great ideas!

Rhoda, my daughter was telling me about your blog. As we were talking by phone, I went to the computer and looked it up. When I saw your picture I said, “I know that lady. She lives in our subdivision.” What a small world! I’ve seen you at garage sales and probably a couple of homeowners’ association meetings although my husband and I have not been so good to go in the last couple of years. We live on Conroy Circle.

I love yard sales. To me it’s like an Easter egg hunt. I never know what I am looking for and sometimes spend less than $20 but always enjoy the hunt. Like you my home is a mix of new and used things. I get a big kick out of someone complementing me on a new piece and saying, “I got that at a yard sale” as they gasp with surprise.

My daughter’s name is Lisa. She went to college and took some interior design but ended up getting a degree in marketing. Recently, a friend of hers called her and asked for her help with a consignment store in Pelham. Decorating has always been fun for both of us and now even my 6 year old granddaughter is catching the bug. Good luck and see you in the spring!

    Rhoda,

I stumbled on your site looking up how to paint black furniture. I too love to hunt for bargains and fix things up. I’ve been a single mom for 16 years and have always had to decorate on a budget. Goodwill, garage sales and flea markets are my favorite places to look for treasures. I live in Marietta, GA and travel to Tuscaloosa where my daughter is attending UA. It seems that I’m always on a schedule there and back but would love to explore the small towns on the way for treasures. I’m a new fan and excited to read your blog!

I love what you did with your great decorating skills. I saw you were selling items and moving. I would keep most of your great stuff and put it in storage if I were you. Then when you get the stuff out of storage you will treasure them all over again, and not have to buy a bunch of stuff. My Mother did the same thing as you, and sold soo much of her stuff on craigslist before her move, and now she is having so much trouble getting caught up.

I love your eclectic style and choice of colors. I sense you cannot resist buying pieces whose shape and catches your eye and keep them
going back there! I am the same.

I happened upon your blog this afternoon and appreciate your story, even though there is heartbreak involved you are still or should I say a “Steel Magnolia”. Your pictures and tutorials are fabulous and the pics of you dad in the veggie garden are priceless. I am a fan.

Dustin, those are site finished hardwoods and the stain was mixed to match existing floors.

My sister found your blog today while looking up the Meander Shoppe. It looks like you had a great time in N. GA with your friends. I recognized Ron and Susan. The little dress and “bloomers” that you bought were from my booth at the Meander Shoppe, and it was nice to see where they were going. Dalton really is a nice place to live–and to visit when you can!

    Dear Rhoda,
Just found your blog and am an instant fan, both of your style and substance. Your grace in your changing situation exemplifies the strength of a true lady. Your mamma raised you right! Thank you for sharing your home and life, you are going to continue to do great things with both, I am sure.
