{Giveaway is Closed}
I’ve got another fun book up for giveaway today that I think many of you will enjoy. Write the Right Words: Messages from the Heart for Every Occasion, by Sandra Lamb covers all the occasions in our lives that we need to share the written word.
Writing notes and letters has really gone by the wayside these days, in our electronic society. When is the last time you sat down and wrote someone a letter…in your own handwriting?! I can’t remember the last time. It really is a shame that we have let so many of the social graces fall away, when relationships are so important to us and writing a heartfelt message is part of that.
My longtime friend, Vicki, who lives in Atlanta is one of the people I so admire in this respect. She has always, always been an encourager of the written word and I have countless cards from her over the many years that we’ve been friends (since high school). For all occasions, I can count on a card from Vicki with a hand-written note inside. I’m afraid I fall far short of writing heartfelt messages and notes to my friends and loved ones. I do send cards, with a hastily scrawled note inside, but it’s not always well-thought out.
From the book: A firm believer that every greeting card needs a personal, handwritten message from you to make it complete, Write the Right Words is a guide to help you create a warm, personal message that connects you to the person you’re addressing. Filled with examples that you can adapt for every occasion, Write the Right Words will help you get through any greeting-card writers’ block. Flair, fun, and a personal voice will make every card you send a memorable one.
This book covers it all:
- Connecting Messages
- Happy Day Messages
- Holiday Messages
- Social Grace Messages
- Care and Concern Messages
- Creating a new relationship Messages
And at the back of the book is a Dates to Remember section, from January through December, where you can add all your own personalized notes to keep yourself organized in sending cards to your friends and family.
I’ve got one copy up for a giveaway! All you need to do is leave a comment here on this post for the chance to win your own copy (retail value $23)! I know I will definitely enjoy having this book on my shelf and I’m going to utilize it from now on.
Answer this question: Do you still send greeting cards? How good are you at personalizing your greeting cards? Do you always write from the heart or scrawl out a quick message like I usually do?
Let’s get better about sending out a special card, filled with our heart-felt thoughts!

The winner of the last book giveaway, The Fixer Upper, is Dogsmom. Congrats and enjoy!
What a lovely idea for a book. When I taught high school, I assigned thank you letters to an important person in a student’s life, one of my more successful assignments. I’d use this book as a place to begin when my writer’s wheels need some oil, and yes, I do still send cards with handwritten notes included. Getting mail is one of the small pleasures in my life!
I do still send cards, mainly because I like to make handmade ones. But I am often at a loss for what to write on the inside. I usually rely on my stamps with verses and sentiments to do it for me. I would love to be able to write a heartfelt note of my own instead! This sounds like a perfect book for me.
Oh, how I love the written word. I cannot recall the last time I received a handwritten letter from anyone or sent one. We really do need to do that more.
Yes, I would love this book. i always think of what I should have said after I sealed the card!
What a wonderful giveaway. How many times have I struggled to write the “right” thing in a card and so haven’t done anything. Thanks for enlightening us all. Blessings
What a great book! I’m a big card-sender, so this is right up my alley 🙂
As a pastor’s wife I do send card and notes but I don’t always know just what to say – some days I know EXACTLY what to write and other days I have NO CLUE! I’m sure I could benefit from this book and I hope to win. 🙂
Sounds like a great book! I always try to send personal messages as thank you’s. I know I really enjoy getting handwritten letters so very much. I really ought to send more out myself. Thank you for the reminder!
What a great book! I never knew there was such a thing. I’m not as good about writing notes in cards as I used to be but I try. I need a little encouragement!
This book would be perfect for me!!! I never know what to say on birthday cards and things like that. I totally get brain freeze and all I end up saying in it is happy birthday. lol
I am afraid I have gone to the E-Card version of sending cards. For one thing, cards are getting pretty pricey, and most of them end up tossed anyway——unless we have really touched them with our “heartfelt” message that we have been talking about. My Grandchildren still love getting cards in the mail box though.
I need to will this one….What a great giveaway! I had something similar to this for business years ago and I loved it!
I received a real long handwritten letter a couple months ago from a dear friend in West Virginia. I opened it and read it on the driveway by the mailbox. I wept as I saw her words and felt all that emotion pouring from the paper. I send cards and I too just usually scribble a few words. But when I received her letter I set down at the table and took the time to write one back. I think I needed the tears that flowed to remind me what really matters.

I admit I strugle at times to put my feelings into words when I’m writing a thank you or sympathy card. I would love to have this book.

What a great book! Although I wish I could say I always wrote from the heart, I am definitely guilty of scribbling down a quick note in cards too. What a great book to have to remind you of the importance of speaking from the heart!
I still send greeting cards and I try to pen a meaningful note but I’ve never been good at it. Creative writing is not my best subject. I’m forever searching for an appropriate scripture or just the right words. I often agonize and write rough drafts on scrap paper. I could certainly make good use of this book.

I love giving and receiving cards but I’m not always the best about what I write inside.
I don’t send greeting cards. . .not if I like the person. To me they are still too impersonal. However, I always send handwritten notes. I buy lots of stationery and blank cards so I can really convey what I want. I too believe that personal handwritten notes are going by the waste side so I have began to teach this art to my children. It can’t die if I pass it down to the next generation.
I will send hand written thank you cards and greeting cards to mark special dates but I find myself doing that less and less. It is a shame to see these customs die away.
I usually send cards, but I am never happy with my notes. My sister always has these beautiful messages that make me smile, but mine just say happy birthday.
