Hi, friends!
I’m back today with the final Christmas decorating post for the season. I have shared most all of the Holiday decorating I’ve done around here and wanted to hone in today on the staircase garland. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in our front door and I loved having a staircase to actually add garland to. It’s prelit so lights up at night on a timer, creating a magical glow in the house.
From the living room to the front door, the stairs are front and center.
Extra pretty with the front door open and the stairs right there in front.
I used two 12′ lengths of Tree Classics Classic Fraser Fir Festive garlands on the stairs and simply placed them on top of the railing and added zip ties to keep them in place.
Fluffing all the branches makes them stand up and out and looking beautiful.
At the bottom of the railing, I added an additional faux spray with berries and pinecones, adding more texture to the bow and bells.
I picked some magnolia leaves from the woods behind us and they are the perfect accent with faux garlands to add some extra “real” texture” and besides, magnolia is just so Southern! I had this black and white ribbon already so made myself a bow to pretty it up. And I ordered those brass bells last year after Christmas after seeing them on another blogger’s Christmas tour. I couldn’t wait to use them this year and this is the perfect spot for them!
A peek all the way up the stairs.
You can get a good look at all the different textures in the garland
With lime green foilage mixed in with pinecones and gold berries, it’s a beautiful garland for the Holiday season.
These beautiful ornaments are from Tree Classics too and I really love them in mercury glass. Their large size really makes a statement too and it was easy to hang them from the garland all the way up the staircase.
See how pretty these ornaments are?
At the top of the stairs, I added these three glittery gold grapevine stars that I’ve had for over 20 years. I love getting them out each year and finding a new spot for them this year.
The garland with all those beautiful gold and silver glass ornaments makes our house glow at night with all the sparkle and shine.
We’ve so enjoyed having our house all decked out for the Christmas season and I know it will seem bare when we go back to regular decor. But that’s what this time of year is all about. Enjoying the festive cheer that comes along with Christmas.
One more peek at the tree in the living room with the additional of a pretty capiz shell Bethlehem star from Tree Classics. It’s so pretty and much bigger than the other star I had.
So that’s a look at how I used two lengths of garland on our staircase this year to up the festive and fun factor with our Christmas house this year. I hope you all enjoy this last week before Christmas and make the most of it. We sure are going to savor every single day before Christmas arrives! Lauren and her family arrive home tomorrow and we can’t wait to spend time with those girls!
Merry Christmas to you all!

Rhoda, your house is so pretty. The ornaments hanging on the railings just makes the foyer so festive. Would love to see it at night all lite up. Merry Christmas to you and Mark and your wonderful family.
Rhoda says
HI, Sue, thank you so much! I will say that battery powered lights aren’t nearly as bright as the plug-ins, but they are very soft at night. I’ve put them on a timer and they are getting dim about now with them being up over 2 weeks.
Iris says
Merry Christmas, Rhoda . I hope that you and Mark share many Christmases under that star. My husband and I exchange ornaments each year. Early on when he was in grad school (we were really poor then) we didn’t get each other one. We always went home for Christmas and my mother secretly gave me a yarn angel and my husband a yarn choirboy and told us to give those to each other. We exchanged those that year and the yarn angel is the topper every year that we have had a tree. She is worn and never was lovely and I look at beautiful stars and angels but we will never get rid of her. I hope that you and all of your now expanded family enjoy this special Christmas.
Roxanne says
Iris, I really, really love your story. It is a big part of what Christmas is all about, those wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing that with all of us. Merry Christmas! Roxanne in South Carolina
Rhoda says
Hi, Iris, oh what a sweet memory you have with that angel on your tree. Thank you, I know this is the first Christmas of many that we will celebrate with our families. Mark’s family is continuing to expand so lots more love to go around. We are blessed!
Becky in 'Bama says
Rhoda: from those of us in ‘Bama – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Your blog remains at the top of my list for your originality, practicality, and like-ability. Blessings.
p.s. – did I miss a post about your family Thanksgiving? I was hoping to see some pics of your family – particularly your mom and dad! 🙂
Rhoda says
Hey, Becky, you’re like an old friend to me, you always have thoughtful and fun comments that you leave me consistently and I appreciate you for that! I’m happy to share things with all of you and I’m just glad y’all are still interested in what’s going on with me. I didn’t post a dedicated Thanksgiving post, but I shared our open house with my parents in the pics. Did you see that one? I’ll be sure and do a Christmas post with lots of family pics.
Sandy says
Rhoda,I absolutely love your new home! Your entry and stAircase are gorgeous! I love the gardens! What color is on your entrance wall going up the staircase? It looks gorgeous with your stair runner and the crisp white on your risers and molding. What color did you use on your molding?
Sandy says
Boy! Could you decipher my poor spelling? IMlove your garland!
Rhoda says
Hi, Sandy, our main color in the house is Gatherings by Magnolia Home/Kilz paint. You can only order it from the website (Magnolia, Joanna Gaines) or I think some Ace Hardwares are carrying it now. It’s a beautiful color and we love it. A similar color in Ben Moore is Revere Pewter. We didn’t repaint all of our trim but I colormatched what we have at Sherwin Williams. It’s a very crisp white like I had in my old house, which was Sherwin Williams Pure White.
Judy Clark says
Merry Christmas Rhoda!
The house looks beautiful. I love garland on the staircase. Those gold ornaments are so pretty. It made me think of the house Hickory Ridge in Marietta. That was the last house that I had with stairs. You did an amazing job (as always). I hope that you have a wonderful Christmas with your family.
Judy
Rhoda says
Merry Christmas, my sweet friend! I loved your Hickory Ridge house.

Oh what a beautiful year you have had! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and your beautiful self with all of us. I just love this garland and am going to order some after the holidays (hopefully on sale) for my very contemporary home – it will sure add some character! And those brass bells – where did you find them?
Best,
Monica
Rhoda says
Thank you so much, Monica! It’s a pleasure for me to share my life with all of you and I so appreciate you all stopping by so often to visit me. I did link the bells in the post if you take a look above.

Love your decorations…..got an idea for next year for you after seeing your stairs. What about hanging some mistletoe in the spot where you have the gold grapevine stars???? Now don’t get me wrong I LOVE the stars but since you said you like to find a new spot each year for them mistletoe would look really cute there hanging above a walk through.
Rhoda says
Hey, Sharon, mistletoe would be great there, I remember growing up with people getting real mistletoe and hanging it everywhere for Christmas parties. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the real thing.
Martha says
Love to read your blog and see all the pics of you and your home. What floor covering do you have at the top of your stairs? We are thinking of hardwood on our main floor and need carpet on the stairs and need something to transition at top of stairs. It is a balcony that leads into 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Thanks for your thoughts and Merry Christmas to you and your entire family!!!
Rhoda says
Hi, Martha, thank you so much! I have done a post about the upstairs floors and they are all Shaw floors engineered hardwoods, you can see it all here. We just love them!

The staircase garlands look so beautiful Rhoda, the ornaments and magnolia leaves are the perfect accents for them! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any garlands or wreaths that are so realistic.
I love the look of the noble fir, it reminds me of my childhood trees in Germany.
I’ve really enjoyed seeing your lovely new home all dressed up for the holidays, it’s a reflection of your good taste, so warm and inviting.

Beautiful! Two thoughts: I would love to have lights at custom lengths so I don’t have cords puddled. Do you know a good trick that I don’t? And I would LOVE to see how you store your things after the holidays. You’ve mentioned things you’ve had for years, so I know your readers would love to see your secrets for prolonging their favorite decorations. Thanks!
Rhoda says
HI, Sheryl, I’m not sure how to get around cords. These are battery powered, but those aren’t as bright as plug-in lights so they get dimmer in use during the season. I think most lights have plug ins at each end that you could keep the string going and then plugin one outlet for power bar. I have plastic bins that I store things in that that keeps them all pretty safe and sound, so I’ll have to make a point to do a post about that. It’s not exciting, just plastic bins!
