The Southern Living Idea House in Asheville, NC is finally up on their website and I’ve been waiting for this all year! I have had the pleasure of visiting many Idea Houses over the years and it’s always a treat. Southern Living magazine still embodies the kind of homes that I dearly love. Casual elegance with a sense of history and decorated with vintage and new pieces, just what I love in my own home. The designer this year is one of my faves, Lauren Liess, who I’ve been following online for years. It’s so nice to see her get recognition as she is super talented and I’m so glad Southern Living tapped her to design and decorate this house. It’s stunning inside and out! If you haven’t seen it yet, be prepared to be wow’d.
To see more of the house and all the particulars, go to Southern Living online. Mark and I were going to visit Asheville and the house in August, but then found out that due to Covid it wasn’t opening as scheduled. It’s now open to the public so we are planning to go there end of October for a visit and I can’t wait! You can go here for ticket info if you’re interested in touring too.

Set in Asheville, NC the house is in The Ramble Biltmore Forest, a 1000 acre community and part of the original farm founded by George W. Vanderbilt in 1897. They wanted to design a classic NC mountain house that resembles a family farmhouse that’s been added onto over time.
It sure has a lot of charm inside and out, so enjoy the tour.
Lauren’s color palette for the house is warm and earthy and I love it all! NC is a beautiful state and her choice of colors came from nature outside the home.

Wasn’t that gorgeous? I really enjoyed seeing this house. Southern Living is my favorite magazine for home styles and decor. That’s not really a surprise since I’m a Southern girl myself and their homes really speak to me. I hope you enjoyed this peek at the Southern Living Idea House in Asheville, NC.
I’m really hoping that I can take even more pics when we visit there in October and I’ll do another post with more details after that. I can’t wait to see it in person!
Here are a few other Southern Living Idea Houses I’ve shared over the years. I visited Senoia and Nashville in person and hope to get to see this Asheville house too.

Wowza. We were able to visit the Biltmore a couple of years ago when they had the Chihuly exhibit and goodness me, Asheville was a magnificent place. It would be a dream to live there! Thanks for sharing this Idea House. Seriously incredible!

Thanks for sharing this gorgeous home.

The gutters must be concealed some way. There is to much roof not to have them.
Kathy Tarbet says
I love seeing the canopy bed!! So many of us have inherited beautiful antique furniture, it is encouraging to see it used in a new house.
Thank you!!!
Rhoda says
I agree, Kathy! I heard those beds are all from Reid Classics, a company that makes heirloom beds. Looks like they are featured in most every SL Idea House.
Charlene Morris says

Rhoda – It’s beautiful! I really love the neutral, natural palette. It really does have a casual elegance that suggests it’s decor has been collected over time. How exciting you going to see it in person next month. I’ll look forward to your pictures and up-close impression. xo

The wall of books in that library is just to die for! And that Japanese soaking tub – WOW! My master bath needs an update and I’m going to seriously research one of those!

I have always loved a southern home. From the homes of my grandmothers and aunts to those of my friends and neighbors, southern homes have been a refuge for me. Now my own home is a place I cherish from which I may offer hospitality and friendship to others.
